I got an SPS stock to fit for my Remington 700 cause the BDL stock was waaayyy too nice to scratch up in the bush:rolleyes: the front of the stock is not as stiff as I'd like and there are some partitioned spaces in there I could fill with something for stifness. Any idea what would work best and weight the least? I guess I could use Acraglass...

I'm keeping this rifle so when the barrel get's shot off I'll have a larger diameter put in and get a decent stock then...

Thanks, Troutseeker

The simplest solution is to simply make the barrel channel in the stock much wider. That way if it does move, it cannot hit the barrel. Odds are it will not move unless you use a tight sling during shooting. Then it moves down, not to the sides.

When bedded properly, the foreend is a nice place to hold but serves no other purpose. My Savage works just fine with the orig stock.

If you do plan on imbedding some arrow shafts, I lean towards the carbon fibre shafts as they are lighter. Spray the stock channel with brake cleaner. You must get rid of any mold release or waxes before sanding. Then its just a matter of gouging up the surface so the epoxy has something to stick to.

Put some fibreglass over the rods and it should hold. Will certainly stiffen things up. Instead of using straight epoxy to fill the voids around the rod and stock, try mixing some chopped FG into the epoxy. Will makes things a bit lighter.

Troutseeker,

A friend of mine use broken fishing rod shafts. Cuts them to length, then lays them into bedding compound and finishes by bedding over them to hide them.

It works, and we all seem to have a few of them kicking around. :D
