I found a large C-clamp on special (around $4) at a recent trip to Princess Auto. My cheapskate bulb lit up quick, so here's what I ended up with.

All wood is doubled-up leftover 5/8 plywood smothered with leftover oil paint.

In action...

Still need to carpet the edges, add a padded disk, shorten the bolt and finish painting the clamp.

Good effort. Try putting some rubber where the gun will touch the wood vise especially at the fore end, We found with an old vise we used that the checkeing on the fore end could get damaged where it contacts the vise. Phil.

That looks nice for a home made job. Once the carpet padding is added it'll be great.

One hint that I think I'd use for my own version is to make the side jaw of the butt stock area curved so it provides more support to the stocks that'll fit in there. Just a gentle curve so that rounded sides of the stock are supported by two vertically spaced contact points on the fixed side rather than one which is what you'll get with the flat area.
