So i cheated on my 1911's it felt kinda dirty but i really liked it...

Another member at the range let me glock out with his G17 it felt really good and i was surprised how well i did with the few shots i fired.

Now i have added a Glock to my list, just have to decide 9mm or 40sw, gen 3 or gen 4.... I tried on a 17c yesterday i really like the idea of the built in compensator. Another consideration for the caliber is the just right carbine, it would be ideal to get them in the same caliber for the magazines.

I have a while to decide seeing as the snow is starting to drop and my range is outdoors.

Any thoughts, pointers?

ive got the glock in 9mm with the "C" and its a nice shooting gun.
while ill never sell it it only sees the range maybe 5% of the time.
the S&W M&P's have me firmly in their grasp!

you may wanna try to handle and shoot a M&P before you pull the trigger on the glock.

but if your determined to get a glock then go with a 3rd gen 9mm.
the 4th gen sound a little too buggy from all that i read and the gen 3 are solid and tried and true.
also the 9 is cheaper to shoot and you can get near the same ballistics with all the new 9mm loads out there.
the days of the 40 are getting short i think.
while there was a time when it had its place i think we will see them less and less and because the Gov't and military dont shoot 40 the price in the ammo will always be more and will creep up continually.

just my $0.02

G17 gen3...bone stock. Only mod you may want are steel sights (Mine wears Trijicons). Lots of ammo, mags and targets.

I prefer the second gen glocks but I'd go with a 22 and get a 9mm conversion barrel.. 2 guns in one. Also great for switching power factors or when your bank account is running lean and you still want too shoot... Also leaves the door open for a 357 sig conversion

Glocks are great (I have a few of them). But if you're a 1911 man, maybe spend a little more a check out an HK P30

don't get me wrong, Glocks are good too

I got a G22 RTF2 and a LoneWolf 9mm conversion barrel and 95% of the time, I'm shooting 9mm. If it wasn't for the price of the RTF2, I would have bought a G17 Gen3 instead.

No worries about the Glock... all good!

As much as I love my 1911's too there will always be room for at least one Glock in the battery, too.

In my case, a G22 in .40 S&W.

You sick cheating bastage! Okay I must confess I have cheated with a CZ Shadowline and it felt good! I personally have not whipped out a Glock yet but I may have to try a poly! Maybe variety is a good thing after all! :)

Variety is the spice of life. I've heard of some problems with the new recoil spring config in the first run of Gen 4's but I believe that has been resolved for some time now. I've shot a bunch of them and wouldn't hesitate to snap up a Gen 4. Brant has a nice G17 G4 competition package that I feel calling me.

The recoil guide issues have been solved on the Gen 4 and if you get a Glock 22 Gen 4, you can really benefit from the newer recoil system, especially if you plan to shoot factory .40. If you have any doubts, you cannot go wrong wit the Gen 3 Glock.

I've got a glock and a few 1911's. My favorite "plastic gun" for IDPA is hands down my Springfield Arms XDM-40 (bi-tone) 5.25. With a drop in trigger kit from powder river precision it rocks! I have not shot any glock with such an awesome trigger. The trigger reset is so short I can double tap with no effort at all.

If you like that type of pistol check out the Springfield XDM. Similar to the glock or S&W. I personaly owned a G17 and hated it. THe XDM is now my only 9 mm!

If you want to compete with the Glock, a 17C will put you in Open class (no good), and a G34 will put you in Standard, but you'll be stuck in Minor.
A G35 would be a better choice because you can shoot either Major or Minor with .40 and also get a 9mm conversion barrel for practice.
A G17 is a competent Production pistol.
