Actually something like this was shown in the Shotgun news book : Gunsmithing Projects. Reid Coffield built one of these out of spare parts of junk guns.

Joe salter finds some neat stuff. He is well established business with a decent reputation. A bit pricey at times, but in business for the long haul.

It is a build called a Platypus. Not just a one off. Australian members might be able to tell us more about it.

A smle barrel and forend grafted onto a martini action. The barrel threads are the same and it screws right on there. New cuts for the extractor and you is good to go.

A smellyteenie. I like it!

I've an old 'dp' marked M-H with a new Parker-Hale bbl and an RIC forecap (term?)...but the altered original fore end was pretty trashed.
Pretty cool carbine; but I'm not so good with wood working, so it's languishing in the safe.
Very neat guns IMO

nope a lot were sold off on the civilian market aswell

Ok.

Side note... This made me wonder why the Indian police and prison guards were so fond of .410 single shot guns, which led to some googling around, and I found out today how easy it is to fireform .303 brass into a .410 brass shell, which can then be reloaded almost indefinitely. Makes sense for a police force on a budget, because spent .303 brass would be a cheap and easy thing to acquire in a former colony.

Now I have to buy a .410 shotgun to try it, so it isn't going to end up being cheap for me.

shotguns shooting shot are 1 more effective at hitting a target and 2 don't have the range of a rifle so if captured by someone it would be just about useless most martini style actions used as shotguns were greener's like the greener guard gun in the 14ga greener cartridge the .410 conversions were mostly done on Lee Enfield's

Weren't most of these Martini Enfields in India converted to single shot .410 prison guard guns?

that was the Gardener gun I believe, they did that to keep "military grade ammuntion" out of the hands of troops/police that might just have a re-evaluation of loyalties

Thanks...

My evil plan succeeds again... Say something half stupid, and the smart guys pop up with the correct info.

(Which is my way of saying I don't mind being wrong, so long as I get the right info eventually).
