Check out this Orignal JAEGER Flintlock Rifle of my buddys.
Ive never seen one before its 1780s or so.
Its really a well made gun this one is a Military one.

it has CRAUSE in HERTZBERG on the Lock.
Its a shooter to.
Anyone here got one of these or know much about them.

Early Jaegers were European precursors to the Kentucky long rifle along with the English Pattern trade, and a fair number came into the eastern US, throughout the 1700s. Probably no way to tell tho when this one actually came over - might have been part of a shipment for the Revolutionary war or if later, came over with an immigrant or for sale as surplus to the new market in the new USA.

The bayonet bar, at the muzzel, tends to suggest a military rifle, or militia rifle. The bayonet bar is sililiar to the one on a Baker Rifle.
CRAUSE in HERTZBURG, would HERTZBURG, be in one of the German states that was allied to Britian, because of the German George kings ?
There is no mention on the index of either Crause or Hertzburg, in De Witt Bailet's "British Military Flintlock Rifles 1740 - 1840 ", that I could find.

It is also a earlier sporting rifle, the name on the lock is wolf and has the wolf carved behind the cheek rest. The claws and teeth are silver on the wolf.

The one your buddy has may be a hunting rifle also since it was not uncommon for boar hunting rifles to have bayonets for there guns
