Hi - I just acquired Savage 12FVSS (an ORA rifle) and have started to set it up for precision - got a harris bipod on it, and a Bushnell 10 X 40 mildot on top of Burris Rings.

I've been advised that I should put on a cheek weld/rest to keep my head up, consistent placement etc. I've been given a couple of suggestions - foam on the stock, styrofoam on the stock, under a rifle cartridge holder, etc.

I am not sure I want to drill the stock and put on a separate cheekpiece.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

Ron

There are several options for a cheekrest.

-the quick, cheap route is to use a solid foam pad cut to size taped under a Uncle Mike's style stock ammo sleeve.

-Strap on style offered by Blackhawk or Eagle. Some models have storage space and shell loops for spare ammo.

-Rooster33 adjustable cheekrest (requires drilling two holes through the stock to mount). This is a solid cheekrest and IMHO, way better then the strap on cheekrests. However you might not want to drill holes in your stock.

Can you supply more info on the Rooster 33 cheek piece please? If you know where to get it in Canada, what they cost and what rifle stocks will it fit?

Just contact Rooster33 here on CGN.He is located in the Fraser Valley area of B.C.

IIRC, the cheekrests were around $45.00 + shipping.

He has one that fits Rem 700 VS/PSS stocks.I have installed that rest on Savage & Tikka Stocks.

This is his M14 Cheekrest:

The Rem 700 one is the same except it is a little narrower and isn't as tall.

I installed his M14 cheekrest on my Rem 700 VS and it worked out fine.
