I'm looking to add a saddle-type cheekpiece to my rem 700 VSF, the stock is the factory HS precision stock, which has served me well, but new optics give me a chin weld instead of a cheek weld, what units would you guys suggest?

Karsten cheek piece. It is solid, and allows for a consistent cheek weld compared to a soft cheek piece. Available from Karsten's Custom Camo on the net. If you can get something similar in Canada, go for it.

I made the one on my 870.

Its held on by sticky back velcro, so is positionable a little bit and removable.

I started with a piece of wood and shaped the outside with a block plane and a belt sander.
The inside contour was started with the wheel of the belt sander then I taped some 40grit sand paper grit side up onto the stock and worked it back and forth until it conformed to the stocks shape.
Then the whole thing was coated in antique danish oil and the velcro was applied.

Look at Tac Pro or Desert Warrior products............anything but what is mentioned above.......

I'm satisfied with the Karstens that I have - is there another issue outside of the product to consider here?

Short version........Karsten copied the design from another maker and passes it off as if he was the one who came up with the idea and developed it...........

At least Desert Warrior Products acknowledged they copied the design and gave credit where it was due.......

I copied the Karsten and made 6 out of a plastic truck mudflap. Had to look all over for decent hardware though. Could only find 2 sets of knobs. Mark

Tac pro sell an unformed kit for, I think $20. This includes the hardware. Probably not as much fun as you had making your own from truck mud flaps but its another alternative.
