chemical cleaning of primer pockets?
I enjoyed your article on reloading,it was very informative.I've been reloading for about 2 1/2 yrs, pistol & rifle,8 diff calibers. My question to you is,do you think using varsol or alcohol just in the primer pocket with Q-tips would be OK with respect to chemical residue? I have match .308 brass & I don't want to keep grinding the primer pockets out as i've encountered over sizing with my Colt AR-15.The primers were falling out & one jammed in the locking lug points! So, I thought of Q-tips & one of the two chemicals mentioned,.........Whataya think? SgtRockRules04

Cleaning primer pockets is a waste of time. Having tested both clean and dirty primer pocket there was not difference in accuracy or SD in velocity.

The use of one of the available primer pocket cleaners is more than enough. Cleaning the ash and residue is all that is required for a new primer to fully seat.
