Hi guys and gals

Since I don't know much about chest rigs (yet :evil: ) I was hoping someone with more experience and knowledge could give me some advice. Would a normal plate carrier like the one in the pic be comfortable for a lady shooter or is there a preferred type that ladies use? Thanks

Keep it as small and light as possible.

Something like the TT Mini-Mav might be all she needs, if she's supplementing a duty-belt that's fully loaded.

Misunderstood what you were asking... If you aren't looking for plates the yes, the recommendation of a battle belt is probably best. It will carry much more than her IPSC belt.

Whats nice about a battle belt vs a IPSC style belt in my opinion is that depending on how you set it up its more adaptable. If your a hardcore 3 gunner a dedicated belt would probably be recommended.

And another note on that topic... The op is talking about POTENTIALLY buying an unsuitable piece of kit when all they need are a few mag pouches and shellholders. Even a dedicated belt, plus 4 Bladetech pistol mag pouches wouldn't break the bank in comparison with buying a chest rig. A Tasmanian Tiger runs for $120 at Tetragon, while a DAA belt and 2 el-cheapo Bladetech doubles cost $60ish? The shellholders will be the major bank-breaker any way you look at it.

All these chest rigs and such have one big drawback.
They are infinitely slower than any other "system ".
After many years and incantations of "rigs" I've settled on the Safari land ELS belt and clips.

I'd recommend running everything off a belt. Do you see USAMU 3gunners running hest rigs? And they'd be the first to do it if it was practical lol Also look at the top ladies.. Belts for everyone

They also don't have to carry as many mags due to not having a 10rd limit. I have run a few different set ups and currently run a chest rig. I like it but would like to migrate everything to a belt.

Are 15 rounds of 5.56 / 5 round .50 beowulf mags allowed or no? An email from WRAS stated they are allowed. Not sure if this is the norm though.

While PCV mags worked well for me early on, after a couple of matches and not too many practices, the lips started spreading out too much, so I switched back to LAR mags. With that being said, something like this holds 4 mags in 2 spots. I think these are knockoffs of a quality product but I've been running 2 pairs doubled-up (they are stackable) ht tp://www.dx.com/p/fast-attach-mag-magazine-pouches-black-third-generation-pair-124402 for about a year. One band broke so far, but it was a 10s electrical tape fix and I've been running them hard

I managed to get a hold of a few of the Alexander Arms metal .50 Beowulf mags. Runs 15 rounds of 5.56 well and is the exact size of a normal 30 round GI mag. Did a video on it here:

While on the topic of 3 gun. I saw on the WRAS website something called "Trooper" class where people would carry all their kit all day including body armor. I was under the impression body armor was not legal in Alberta. Was I misinformed?

EDIT: Nevermind my previous question, I found the answer in Alberta's Body Armor Control Act

Are some individuals exempted from the Act?
Yes. Any person or any occupation with a legitimate need for body armour is exempt from the Act. The following persons are exempt while performing duties within the scope of their employment:
Police officers
Peace officers
Ambulance attendants
Wildlife or conservation officers
Firefighters
Individual holding a valid license under the Security Services and Investigators Act (i.e., security guard, investigator, loss prevention worker, bodyguard)
Individuals holding a valid licence under the Firearms Act (Canada);
Gaming and Liquor Act inspectors
Business owners, or employees of a business, who in the ordinary course of that business or employment purchases, sells, transports or otherwise deals with body armour;
Public officers as defined in section 117.07 of the Criminal Code (Canada);
Individuals or museums who are collectors of medieval or historical armour or reproductions of medieval or historical armour;
Manufacturers of reproductions of medieval or historical armour;
Individuals involved in farming or ranching operations, while engaged in farming or ranching operations;
Individuals performing in an exhibition, stampede, rodeo, fair or sporting event.

Therefore if you have a PAL / RPAL you can still buy and own body armor in Alberta, correct?

Lots of guys do great carrying three or four LAR mags.
I've never seen anyone here run a match where you need 50 rounds of rifle for a stage.
Of course I see it often where the CoF calls for 12 rounds and many shooters fire 50.

Hey, I go to matches to shoot! The more the better, however a buddy of mine (Yes, you know who you are!!) feels unload and show clear at the end of the stage means to empty the mag! :)
So it takes 10 minutes to patch,,,,,. We still have fun!

The Beowulf mags are allowed. I run lars with S&J extensions myself, I find them easier to pull from a mag pouch as well as more reliable. Depending on how....um...well endowed your lady is it may be better to go with vest or plate carrier. Tasmanian Tiger has a rig with just a front plate that may work well.The APM plates are fairly light (rated to 44mag level 3 I think) and not too expensive, I seem to remember them for around $120 each.

I figure 4 x Metal beowulf mags is the way to go then. Chest rig with pouches (and some sort of shell carrier??) for the fun factor and run my (and my wife's) normal IPSC rigs for the pistol part. :)

Perhaps later we may invest in a good battle belt etc as many have suggested, but we will see how serious we get about it or if we are just going to shoot for the fun of running and gunning.

Thanks guys
