Tis the season for them, anyone partake in these this time of year?
How do you prepare them? How do they taste?
When I was in Sophia Bulgaria years back they had carts on just about every corner selling these nuts freshly roasted. Unfortunately I never partook I was too busy working off a hangover and looking for the nearest MacRonalds for some familliar grub. My loss :(
But it seems Christmas time they start to make thier way into the grocery stores so they must still be popular.
Anyone care to share thier experience.

just score them with a sharp knife and toss in the toaster oven.
they are ready when the scored part of the shell is curled back. takes about 20 to 30 min in my toaster oven.

i love'em.
when picking them at the store make sure they dont have any tiny holes in them from bugs.
they should be solid all around, no cracks or splits.

enjoy

Microwave is quick and simple for small batches.

Score the shells, dab a bit of oil on them if you feel the need, same for salt, if you want. A couple seconds for a half dozen or so. Experiment to see when when they are done to your liking.

The ones from the vendor in the square in Zagreb, were pretty darn good!

Been hit or miss on the ones from the supermarket. Some batches are pretty decent, some had half or more bad ones (moldy, shriveled, etc.). The good ones look good, and are all pretty much the same colour through the nutmeat.

Mmmm!

Cheers

The ones I bought from Sobey's were moldy & shriveled up

Been eating them all my life and are delicious.

Yeah I find buying them locally is hit and miss, I've been lucky to find some that most were good and then the next batch I had to throw half of them away from rot.
