Anyone know about regulations regarding export of this weapon system from the US? Ie. Is it theoretically equivalent to importing a bolt action hunting rifle?

kind of late for the company. I still wont buy their rifle, especially with that quote on their website... something along the lines of "not wanting it to get into the wrong hands" :jerkit:


As far as the rifle goes, im sure you could actually get it (now that the company isn't being lame about it) and the import costs would only be a small fraction of the rifle cost. Im pretty sure the thing was only regulated by the company itself, and not the US Gov. Someone like Questar would be the guys to ask.
 
Ask Longshot about getting one out of the U.S.

The company he works for brought two .408 CheyTacs into Canada for the Movie "Shooter" that he worked on.

He said in one of the Movie threads here that the U.S. Government would not let them out of the country if they were functional.He had to have them exported with dummy barrels IIRC.

He also said they are a piece of junk. WAAAY over built for what they are.

He will probably be along here to chime in his thoughts on the Cheytac.

We brought in 3 of them.Personally I like the caliber but didn't like the rifle at all.I think if you could build a regular style rifle in that caliber you'd have something great.
The US government has made things exceedingly difficult for US companies to sell abroad.I think when they say stuff like they don't want it to get into the wrong hands they are just towing the party line at a time when they are still looking for government contracts.
I would spend your money on a custom build in that or another caliber.

Seriously tho, my brother wants to buy something relatively rare. Good enough reason to spend the money - sometimes you just gotta get the one you want and make up your mind for yourself, yeah?

But it doesn't sound like this is a case where a Canadian can do so. Unless you somehow managed to stash one-a Marky-Mark's guns?

I think his answer would likely be "because I want it".

Personally I like the concept of the Cheytac. I'd probably build one out of titanium and aluminium where I could to save on weight but for now it's the 50BMG and the 338LM AI that get the big boomer awards for Canadian folks.

Longshot's co-worker did machine an aluminum copy of the Chey-Tac for Mark Walberg to use in the scene in the Attorney General's office.

The real Chey-Tac was too heavy for Mr. Walberg to hoist around and hold..............

I like the rifle and i also like the simplicity of the gun i hope you understand what i am talking about.
 
Contact the company directly. If they or an affiliate is set up for export, they will give you details. Then you just follow the bouncing dots with Cdn DFAIT- paperwork, CFC, etc.

Wait, wait, and wait some more. Send to the US and wait there some more. Spend your money and wait again.

When/If it arrives, have it verified, enjoy...

Read the first few posts in this thread.

The U.S. Government isn't too willing to let the Chey-Tacs be exported out of the U.S.

You are better off contacting Chey-Tac directly to see if they can legally Export the rifle and what permits are going to be required.

In early 2007 we were told in no uncertain terms (by several sources inlcuding the manufacturer and contacts at State Department) that the US State Department would not under any circumstances approve that "technology" for export to civilian end-users.

We have seen nothing in the interm to suggest that this "policy" has changed or is going to change any time soon.

I don't see any "legal" way for a Canadian civilian to get one of these. While there is a commercial version being sold in the US our understanding is that US State Department will not approve that rifle (or that "caliber") for export to civilian end-users here in Canada.

Didn't you read anything above?You CAN'T have one.The US government will not let them out of the country.PERIOD.

Simplicity?You have obviously never seen one.

Gotta love a guy with 3 post asking how to get one from the States after its already been said that it can't be done.What do you want..one of us to tell you how to get one illegally?I hope you are just a youngster.
