I see a general consensus on here that these things should be avoided in favour of the GSGs. I'm happy to save the little bit extra to get the GSGs--but I prefer the look of the Chiappa (only a bit, on account of the GSG's beaver tail), and I have heard of people (including Gunblast.com) who are quite pleased with the Chiappa...

So could you guys let me know what it is about the Chiappa 1911-22s that makes them something to be avoided?

The trigger pull is pretty horrendous....google it and you will find some breaking over 10lbs, some at 14lbs. You could never shoot it accurately with that heavy of a pull.

I dont have any personal experience with the Chiappa but I can tell you that my gsg runs flawlessly. They great little guns and if im not mistaken, I believe the beaver tail can be replaced by an other 1911 back strap if it really bothers you.

I would stay away from Chiappa mostly as they make extensive use of their so called "Chiappa Alloy" which is nothing but Zinc alloy, pot metal. All of their .22s are made of zinc alloy. Same metal used on the walther P22 or sig Mosquito slides. This metal should have no place in firearms all together...

The slide to frame fit on the Chiappa is far more loose than on the GSG as well. And the couple of Chiappas I've seen closely or handled looked like they had been held to the buffing wheel for a tad too long. The lines and general finish of the GSG is far more crisp and nicer to see.
