I was thinking of picking up a new Chiappa.22 SAA at the LGS. For $289+Tex's. It's for my 9 yr old son , to learn on. Is it a waste of money or should I look for something a little better?

I have one, and quite enjoy it. Finish is more paint then blue, but foe a convertible .22 SAA I'm not complaining
T
Convertible as in .22 rim fire and .22 magnum? I didn't know it had this option. Anyway thanks, it's just something for the boy to learn with. I'm sure he'll get something better as he grows.:)

Good for you Dad. Get him shooting early. Practice ACTS and PROVE Safety You won't go wrong with it I talked to a co-worker who bought one for his grandson He loved it . He had a blast shooting it himself Low velocity ammo. It will run for a long time Look at all the old 22lr revolvers (H&R, Recks Ivor Johnsons) still going. It will be a keep sake for him in the future

he's been shooting rifle since last summer , but he's been eyeing my Uberti .45 , so I thought a SAA .22 was in order. Now if I could get him a holster rig , he would be all set :)

Myself and some buddies have had issues with Chiappa guns and there's LOTS of stories about issues out on the web. I know of 7 fellow shooters that have bought Chiappa and all 7 of the guns have had pretty major issues that keep them from shooting reliably. I won't buy any until I find out that they've got their act together.

Pay a little more and get a Pietta 1873 in .22LR from Marstar. It'll be a FAR better handgun. The pair of center fire Piettas I'm using for plinking as well as my cowboy action are going strong after 7 years worth and a few thousand rounds through each of them. Not a hiccup between them. And all the other folks I know of with Pietta guns have had the same reliability with them. So I'd expect their rimfire models to work just as well.
