Hey gang, just received my Chiappa Double Badger today in .22LR/20ga, and it appears the receiver is scarred!

This one came from Calgary Shooting Centre - but I have not yet contacted them as I tend to think this is a factory issue versus CSC QAC... the rifle is of course unfired and otherwise nearly perfect in all other respects. I've heard of various finishing issues from Chiappa; wondering if anyone else has experienced the same?

I’m winding up for a Chiappa internet dump about my experience with the 20/22. Waiting for a response from Murray charlton re warranty, I would hold off buying anything Chiappa for a bit... broken guns out of the box is not a good business plan in the internet age. We will see, and I’ll let you know, but $520 out of my pocket for a broken firearm (nib) will buy a lot of internet grief for Chiappa.

Oh... what happened to yours Peace?

I am of the same mind of d-d really; wasn't expecting a Winchester, and fully intended to use and abuse this rabbit gun lol. Still, very disappointing for a brand new product - and in this case the internet seems to be telling the truth.

Chi-"Crap"-pa... if you are not going to pay for quality, you should expect a lack of it... I am sure it is disappointing, but should almost be anticipated.

Agree with hoyt. Ive yet to see a chiappa run smooth cycle or at least be reliable. From their 1911 22lrs to their single shot repos. Soft metals. Poor engineering. Very lack luster service.

Best of luck

Well, I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum. I have 2 chiappa's and and very pleased with both.

1892 Winchester lever gun clone in 45 colt and it is my favorite firearm that I own. Very smooth lever action. I chose it over a Henry in the store based on the action... and everyone brags Henry's up as super smooth. It's a beauty and I want to hang it on my fireplace (my wife is opposed). It's in my opinion at least... a quite high end firearm with case hardened finish and very good wood furniture quality (nicer stock & forend grains on it than any others I have)

and also an 1873-22 SAA in 22lr. One of the cheap $200 single action army clones that Frontier Firearms ran a special on on CGN here. It is cheap & reliable and as accurate as I am with any other handgun, shoots anything & everything that fits in it. It is as low end as a handgun comes... but still a great value because it is everything I expected it would be... it's just not pretty as it's a baked finish on the metal instead of bluing. It was ordered online and I never got to cherry pick it or handle it before it was mine, and it all worked out well.

So, no... not all chiappa's are crap. Just half of them lol

I slept on the issue and decided on exchanging it. Still like to have one - but prefer I beat it up myself versus during the factory manufacturing process lol.

I only have one Chiappa and it's flawless in fit and finish. It's a Kodiak based on the 1886 winchester action and frankly I think it's really good.

I'd talk to the Calgary Shooting center guys and at least hear what they have to say about. A user gun will get scarred up eventually anyway but it should at least look new when you un-box it.

Hey guys quick update - CSC taking care of it and has inspected and set a replacement aside for me already! Shipping this one back under RMA, they’ve made this entire process incredibly easy. Needless to say I am now a repeat customer. Gotta got their shop in person one day.

Will follow up with a proper range report once the new one comes in! As always, thx for the advice/support CGNers!

There are somewhat varying opinions on what constitutes flawless. I’m with Hoyt on Chiappa.

I bought a double badger that had .22cal firing pin sticking in the fired position had to disasemble the action 6 times to push back the firing pin back on 38 rounds took it back 3 times with having the same problem. Piece of junk took a total loss on it the shop didnt come good on it was disgusted on the whole deal .

I played with one at a gun show a few years ago--my intial impression before holding and inspecting it was "pretty neat", after 2 minutes of fondling, I couldn't wait to put it back down. Garbage.

People bash Norinco, where-as I've never had a failure with one but CHIAPPA-let me tell you lol. I had a M1-9, & the damn bolt Snapped in 2! One positive was that Murry Charleston fixed it without any hassle..& I was prob not really under warranty ;) I really liked it too, almost want to try another one...almost~

Having the same issue right now with my BRAND NEW NEVER FIRED Chiappa Double Badger .22LR over .410. Took it to the range today and the .22lr pin was stuck out, I had trouble closing the gun and it hit the primer but luckily didn't let the round off!

I was not expecting anything special with a $375 gun, but I want it to work and not shoot a fellow club member in the foot. Did anybody manage to find a fix? From what I read online, this was a VERY common issue.

Yes, the fix is to send it back.
