Chiappa M1-22 reviews?

I really enjoy mine. Only real complaint for me was the rear site. The peap would move down the ramp as I was shooting but I was lucky enough too have a US GI steel rear site assembly in my spare parts bin. A little minor fitting too the site and all is good. I have put around 1000rds thru mine with no issues other than the mentioned site. I used an sks sling and an empty 223 case acting as an oiler for my sling setup. Slot for oiler is smaller than original.

I just picked one up so hopefully i'll be able to add my thoughts soon as well. I can say that i am impressed with the overall make up of the rifle, i've seen worse but i will be replacing the rear sight with a USGI.

I bought one yesterday took it out shooting today shot 20 rounds put it down to reload the magazine picked the gun back up went to put the magazine back in but it wouldn't stay in looked at the side of the gun and I was missing the safety selector and the magazine release now waiting for warranty

Spend a bit more and get the non-restricted Auto-Ordinance version in 30 carbine... Yes the ammo is a bit more expensive and not as easy to find, but it's such a nice gun to shoot... Well built and no plastic. Recoil is pretty low as well.

yeah i handled one the other day.. the stock is nice.. thats about all ive got to say about the gun thats good.

Trigger at 12lb is a little bit too heavy for my liking.
terrible plastic rear sight
plastic everywhere else

i opted out of buying it

will track down the real deal instead

I will say I was recently considering one and ended up skipping it, instead buying a conversion kit for a 10/22. It's not exactly replicating the M1's action, but it's a reliable gun I know works and can do internal modifications to by myself. In total, the rifle plus modifications ended up costing me about $500. That's a good bit more expensive than the Chiappa, but I think it was worth it and man is it sweet.

I had been eyeing one of these since first hearing about them some time last year. I finally bought one for a fun and cheap replica plinker. I am very impressed with it so far. Yes it is all plastic. It likes certain types of ammo (Winchester black box bulk works great, federal bulk not so much). But almost every semi auto .22 I've ever played with from ones built in the 60s until now shared those traits to a certain degree. It shoots very, very well. It cycles the action smoothly and functions reliably with ammo it likes. It's even fairly decently quiet. I'm really impressed with it for what it is. The only downfall I have a complaint about is that I used most of the windage adjustment to get mine on target. It still has a bit left though.

I picked my M1-22 up when they were first available; It's a great little plinker, and has some respectable accuracy for the money. Mine eats anything I stuff in the mags with very few hiccups.
But I hated the plastic sights, bayonet lug, etc, so much I replaced them with originals. With some minor mods (i.e. cylinder shims & grub screws), everything fits/functions perfectly.

I might have to try that down the road. Can the front sight and protector be replaced with original parts? Would be nice to have a rear sight that was centered. I'll get used to it though.

Yes, both the front and rear can be replaced. The front site requires a sleeve insert, as it is a little larger diameter than the M1-22. I drilled and tapped a small grub screw on for security.
The bayonet mount needs the same type of insert as the front sight.

The rear site requires that you open the dove-tail on the receiver slightly - then gently drift it on.

I'd love to grab one of these but nobody seems to have them in stock and the ones that show up on the EE seem to be priced at above retail for brand new ones.

Here is my M1-22 with original M1 front and rear sights, and barrel band w/bayo mount. These are before I refinished them to better match the rifle finish (they were a mix of park'd and blued parts...)

Mines not bad, but it takes the title of the heaviest, creepiest most gritty trigger my booger picker has ever faced,it runs anywhere between 8-10lbs on my Lyman digital trigger pull gauge with a good 25 yards of creep.
I have lightened the trigger spring slightly and I pulled the trigger group and coated the moving surfaces with lapping compound. Sitting in front of the TV working the trigger a few thousand times. It has started to just show polishing and the grittyness is gone but the crazy creep remains.

Oh well, my new James River Armory M1 Carbine I just received form IRUNGUNS surely makes up for the Chiappa with it's crisp 6lb trigger.
