I'm looking to upgrade the stock on my Chiappa M1-9. So far it's been a blast and reliable, but the stock is just tiny and I want a full pistol grip.
Does anyone know how much milling would be required (if even possible by just removing material) to make something like a Choate stock fit?

I'm also curious what other tweaks and upgrades the CGN community has been up to. A red dot is definitely on the list for me.

Thanks

Interested as well.
I doubt there is anything aftermarket for sale.
Mine shoots good, no issues but stock is way too short for me.

I picked up an M-1 carbine Choate side folder stock and sat down with a dremel tool. Took a couple hours to make sure the stock and handguard didn't touch ANYTHING but it worked great while I had it!!

what were the modifications you had to do besides the wider opening for the magazine?

I wonder if there is something similar to an UltiMAK mount for the Chiappa... :yingyang:

That's the barrel-mounted rail that replaces the top handguard, right? I believe I saw in a video that the Chiappa barrel has a slightly smaller diameter so you may have to add shims (strips off a pop can).

Also thanks Zuke for blazing that trail. With the folder the OAL of the rifle is still non-restricted I assume.

I recently got an M1-9. I ordered a repro sling and oiler and buttstock pouch to give it some character. On that same order I have an original M1 Carbine bayonet lug/nose cap assembly which I will try to fit onto the M1-9 to replace the plastic piece currently in that place. I couldn't find anywhere online if anyone had tried to fit that piece, but for the $18usd it cost for the original I figured it might be worth a shot

Where did you get the sling and oiler?

Ha I went the other way. Put the Chiappa stock on one of my M1 carbines because it was smaller and lighter. Actually I did a couple as the wood on my rifles were cracked and gouged. Mind you this was a few years ago now. :)

Numrich in the states has reproduction sling and oiler combos for around $20usd. I believe they had sold out of originals when I looked last?
On a performance note, I ran the first 100 rounds through it last days off. Just cheap aluminum cased 9mm ammo; not a single malfunction. After reading some reviews and watching some YouTube videos I was expecting a jam-o-matic but was pleasantly surprised

When I had the new M1-9 at the range last week, my buddy brought his actual M1 Carbine. Here is some side by side comparisons for anyone interested (M1-9 on the bottom and on the right in the pictures)

Thanks for the heads up!
I bought mine for 300ish because it did jam so often. Took me 1 1/2 mags to figure out why and 20 min with a small flat file to fix it. No problems after that

I received my repro-sling/oiler combo as well as a surplus bayonet adaptor/front barrel band combo yesterday. As mentioned previously (or maybe in another thread?) the barrel diameter of the M1 Carbine is bigger than the M1-9, so I am looking for advice on what to use to shim the barrel so the USGI band will fit? I want to do this to eliminate the plastic bayonet band that the rifle comes with.
Just a quick measurement puts the M1-9 outer barrel diameter at 0.570"
The inside diameter of the USGI bayonet band is 0.620"
which means I have to take up roughly 0.05"

Any material suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Also, removing/replacing the band will involve removing the front sight. The original M1 Carbine is pinned on with an indexing pin according to the interwebs. I assume the M1-9 will have some sort of similar indexing so that I can ensure it goes back on vertical? Anyone removed their front sight?

Well, I removed the front sight in order to install the surplus USGI front barrel band/bayonet lug. With that, I have one less plastic part on the gun. I can tell you it was VERY frustrating to get the front sight back on since when you tried to drive the pin back in the sight would rotate. Took me about an hour of frigging about to get the sight back on square and solid. I also attached the reproduction sling/oiler bottle combo as well as a buttstock pouch. I'd say from the next shooting bench over I have a pretty convincing copy
