Does anyone have the number for the chief firearms officer in B.C. I've called the number on the rcmp site to speak to an agent and they keep saying my application is with the chief firearms officer. But it's been with this officer for 12 weeks. Thanks in advance

mine has been with the chief firearms officer of my province since June.. no luck getting any answers as to why some are getting it faster then me.

You cannot talk to the firearms officers directly. You can talk to the phone people for BCs CFO office by using extension 9530 when you call the CFP phone number. It's better than the regular CFP people but not always a lot better, depends on what exactly the hold up is. My buddies was under review for many months, with an officer, and "it's currently with an officer" was about all they could tell him for like 4 months.

I have spoken to Alberta's CFO numerous times. Our CFO is one of us and is present at many gunshows in the province.

When our RPAL renewals were taking a long time we went and spoke to the CFO staff at a gunshow. They had their computers with them and sorted out our renewals on the spot.

The difference is our CFO actually likes gun owners.

Good luck to you!

I just sent my renewal in last month and should probably check on the progress soon.

If you have any restricted firearms, the BC CFO may want proof of range membership. That could be the holdup.

My online application didn't ask for it and the CFC just told me that someone would contact me if they needed more information.

They did ask for it on my last renewal, but I don't feel like waiting for them to contact me this time.

Forgot about my renewal this time until I got my 3 month notice. Sent in my online renewal application early December, still stuck at initial review completed and will contact me if more information is needed. My brother did his renewal back in November and was approved in 3 weeks...

Don't worry about it. Can take up to 6 months. So long as it's with them, and you not a total badass (in a negative way), you be alright.

Nothing wrong with proactively sharing a copy of a current range membership if you want the physical card in your hand sooner…

It helps but it’s no guarantee the process will happen quick, my last renewal I emailed a copy of my range card in with the renewal ref number and it still took awhile. I had to call and harass them 3 times, it was sitting on the final approval dept’s desk for months. Once I got transferred to them by the bc cfo the lady I spoke with green lighted it and I had it in hand within a week.

Last renewal I did I sent my membership in via email just after I did the online renewal. Took 35 or 36 days total if I recall. That was almost two years ago, however.

When I spoke directly to the CFO (Terry is her name) at the Kamloops Gun Show last spring she said they were down 40% in staff and it didn't look like that was going to improve. Her comments were - 'they don't want to give us funding', and 'no one wants the job'. I suspect that's why the renewal times have greatly increased since I had mine done.

Yes, I'm sure I'll be approved within the 6 month grace period, but I just started shooting trap and joined a trap league - but won't be able to participate if my PAL is expired. Wish I had remembered to apply earlier. I did just send off a fax/email with my range membership, hopefully that will speed it up? If not, will try calling them a couple weeks before expiry. Does the BC CFO office open at 9am PST?

Edit: HOLY CRAP! Decided to take a chance and called the BC CFO line, got through right away, not even put on hold. Officer put me on hold to look at my application and approved it right away. Card will be sent out to me in a few days! :D

what time of day did you call?

Applied for my renewal online on the 3rd of January, started checking the status on the CFP website after a month have gone by, called the national number couple weeks later it was 3 days before my license was set to expire, I was giving the same answer "the application was forwarded to the BC CFO office" waited another week I noticed the status was updated to application approved and license issued. It took another 3 weeks to receive my license in the mail.
