Hello everyone,

I have a Chilean 1895 long rifle that has the Chilean crest stamped on the left side of the butt. There is an "MF" in a rectangle directly under the crest.

I have seen other 1895's with a date stamped in this location but never an "MF". Does anyone know what this means?

Thank you.

Antique Arms Inc. listed one with the 'MF' as being Navy. They also say, "Instead of the traditional Chilean crest, the top of the receiver bears a fouled Naval anchor with a Chilean star."

Thanks for the replies.

I just had a look at the one shown on that site and the stock crest is the same. However, my 95 has the standard Chilean crest on the receiver ring.

It is interesting that they mention a factory refurbishment at some point. I suspect that mine is also a refurb since the bolt shroud has been re-numbered to match at some point. All other serial numbers are matching and appear to be original. There are a few other clues scattered around the rifle that suggest it went through a refurb years ago.

Does any one have a Chilean 95 that they suspect went through a refurbishment? Any other sources of information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
