Chilian Mauser and 7.62 Nato

The 1912 Chilean Mauser I bought will not eject 7.62N without a fight, usually with a cleaning rod down the bore. Factory loads and my reloads of .308 are not a problem. Since these were re-chambered for the Nato rd. it's a mystery to me. Not that it matters a whole lot, I prefer my handloads, but wondering if anyone has an opinion of what gives. Does the military stuff expand more? I was using 1962 Canadian ammo. I could easily see they were longer but the overall length was ok. Also, these were obviously made for the FN Fal, would that make a difference? Thanks

The Mauser action has more than adequate capability to extract fired cases. Cases most often tend to stick in the chamber because the chamber is dirty or pitted. I'd give the chamber a good cleaning with a bronze brush and examine it for pitting after wiping clean. Fine steel wool on a split dowel turned by a variable speed drill can also be used to polish the chamber.

What do the fired cases look like-bulged, split, distorted?

Sticky case extraction can also be an indication of higher pressure. Military 7.62 ammo runs fairly hot. You seem to indicate no such problems with your handloads, so that may be the way to go keeping the loads on the mild side.

Thanks. I did try some steel wool around a brush, it brought some gunk out. I'll try with a dowel though. Some cases were scraped and dented just below the shoulder. There were a few virgin brass hand loads that had problems at 1st also, but that seemed to work it's way out. Commercial ammo is good also, but I'd rather have a milder load. Thanks again.

try a m14 chamber brush, its 308 and should do the job.
