Chilliwack IDPA

I'm in the club. We just had our September match yesterday. PM me with your phone number and hopefully I can answer any questions and put you onto the Fraser Valley Tactical Shooter's website. It's a separate site geared to the club's IDPA portion until the club's website can be properly updated into the new Millenium.... :D

There's a few guys that make the trek out from Vancouver for our matches. It's quite likey we can get you into contact with them and arrange for a car pool setup so you all don't need to drive out individually.

The same offer for information is open to anyone else reading in. PM me your phone number and name and I'll help out as much as I can.

Kim and Ken, which are the top end organizers, seldom post on CGN. So I'm pretty much next in line what with being the interweb slut that I am......:D

Geez I forgot all about this thread. Thanks for the info. Why do most of my posts sound sarcastic and not funny as intended. Gotta try a new approach.

i am in chilliwack and know nothing about IDPA although i am a member at the club, is there a "bystander" section where i can come watch and get to know the sport?

thanks,

thanks,

as aforementioned, i have never shot idpa. that being said, i have never been to any shooting match where showing up and watching the match was not allowed. as long as you bring along eye and ear protection and speak with someone once you are there, it should be fine.

Best buncha guys you could choose to hang out with on any day of the week. I just wish I had more time to join them, but Sunday's are a very busy day for me. Maybe when all the kids have grown up and moved out....

The last match I attended, I brought my daughter along to watch. All she needed was eyes and ears. She had a good time, even though it rained cats and dogs the entire day! So yeah, spectators are very much welcome, with your eyes and ears. IDPA is a very fun time to be had. If you're a member of the club you should consider joining them!

I am sure it will be just fine :) its what I did. Before I had a pistol even. I was lent a couple for the first night, the people are great.

If you have a pistol and a holster and mag pouches, and some ammo, bring it. You will shoot. :) An instructor will show you safe handling and holster stuff and some basic mag pouch/mag insertion stuff.

Even if you only have a pistol and ammo, you can start out.

I haven't shot in Chilliwack since Provincials last year but I can attest they are a very friendly and welcoming group.

Anyone in the Lower Mainland area will find an IDPA home with Kim and Ken.

Go out and have fun :)

John

I was wondering if I was able to use a .22 pistol. If so i would love to come as I am in the process of deciding on a larger caliber to start in pistol events down the road.

as for .22, nope. pistols must be able to make power factor. IDPA is based on defensive carry pistols. .22s are not strong enough to stop a bad guy reliably under stress. Hand loads must be able to make a certain power factor too, so that people don't run really weak ammo for quicker double taps etc.

9mm is most common, as its cheap and readily availiable. you can get old surplus guns in 9mm, you can get 1911s in 9mm and you can even get revolvers in it. As well, of course, many many modern guns in 9mm.

This is not the case.

C-Fred until you get your center fire gun please come out to their shoots. Ken Matheson just gave me permission to list his cell number here 604 845 7779. You are more than welcome to come out and try IDPA with your .22LR psitol and see what you think of the sport. Ken and Kim will be more than willing to lend you guns to try out to see what guns you fancy before spending your money. Too, they are prepared to also lend you any other gear you might require. Bring some sort of cover garment with you that falls about 8 inches below your belt line or enough to cover the base of your holster. If you don't have an old shirt or coat that will do I am sure one of the competitors will have something you can use.

Hope you enjoy your time with the club.

All the Best

Bob

JR, I believe what Bob is saying is that C-Fred can use his .22 to TRY IDPA, he would not be competing for score but would be getting the general feel for the game. Rule book is specific on minimum power requirements and you are correct in that you cannot use a .22 to compete in IDPA. I agree with Bob if a new shooter has a .22 let him play to see if he is interested.

JR et al the Chilliwack IDPA club welcomes all new shooters. If this case we have a new shooter wanting to try out the game and has only a .22lr pistol then Ken and Kim are more than willing to allow him to try out the sport using the .22lr. We encourage new shooters to enter the shooting spots be it IDPA, IPSC, PPC, 3 Gun, Trap, Bullseye or Skeet, etc. Both Ken and Kim as well as the other members are willing to lend equipment to the new shooter to get the feel of different types of firearms before they make a purchase. My favourite blaster may or may not be "Mr. Right" to the next guy on the line.

I should make it clear that I spoke to Ken prior to posting on this thread and have done so at his request and on his behalf. Kim Gilmore and Ken Matheson are the Club Contacts and new members should contact either of them to hear what is available to them and what the local club policies are. There contact information is listed on the www.idpa.com website and accessed from the home page.

Take Care

Bob
