chinese military sks question

I believe the factory stamps on the side of the receiver indicate they were manufactured for the military (ie 416, 626 etc). There is a sticky in the red rifles forum that can tell you in greater detail. No factory stamp on the side of the receiver indicates civilian manufacture. Also, obvious variants like the SKS-D and KD are commercial, as well as non-matching serials if I'm not mistaken (someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, my memory isn't as good as it used to be.)

One definite indicator is when they have a rubber butt pad. There is an unconfirmed rumor that if the barrels are pressed and pinned into the receiver they were intended for civilian markets. There are some on the US boards that deny the truth in this rumor. Considering how many SKS rifles the Chinese built with pressed/pinned recievers I tend to agree. Such rifles may however have been built for export to other nations for their military use.
I have one with the 260 factory marking with close to 5000 rounds down the tube and it is just as accurate as any other SKS and certainly doesn't seem to be in danger of coming loose.
