I'm sorry to start another chinese vs russian thread. I just want to know, if I'm not too bothered about accuracy, should I wait for a new chinese sks when marstar gets them in or just get a russian one? this will be my first gun purchase and I kinda want to buy a brand new one.

I guess what I'm asking is, all other things aside, will a chinese one be as reliable as a russian one?

there pretty much the same, one just looks nicer. But the cheaper one if you just want a cheap plinker.

Agree. The chinese ones are lighter, but accuracy wise I think it's a crap shoot from rifle to rifle regardless of what makes.

The Russians look and feel better I find. Plus you can get one in a laminate stock. The Chi-Coms will be loaded with cosmoline probably also, which some people do not like dealing with. The Russians are only covered in a machine oil.

I have a chinese late production, still like new,i fired approx 400 rounds with but my well used russian Tula 55/56 is more accurate and better quality. Maybe my chinese will go eventualy.

Go with Russian, accuracy, look and quality. If you want to make noise go with Chinese one.

Thanks! That's all I'm really looking for. Not to say everyone else's input wasn't helpful, I just really wanted to know if a Chinese SKS will go bang as reliably as a Russian one.

Like I said, I just want to get something new for my first rifle...I'll prob wind up picking up a nice Russian one later on (...rifle that is)

If you are looking for a shooter all SKS's will do the job with no problems. I have some Chinese versions that that will out shoot Russians and visa-versa. If you are going to mail order a SKS as a shooter, go with the cheaper price. There is already sponsors selling Chinese SKS for $219.00 shipped.

Yeah, I'll be mail ordering one. I was kinda hoping that Marstar would still have them for $139 when they get their shipment in :D (is that still happening?) I don't get my PAL until the late Feb/early Mar anyway...

You can wait for Marstar but for some reason his Dec delivery did not get here. Then Jan came along. It is almost Feb. I am pretty sure that if he ever gets it it will not be at 139. He is a business man, not an idiot.
Go with Russian one. Original manufacturer and not a knock off.

I have both (Russian 1952 and Chinese 1993...I believe)...and the Russian does feel better made. They both fire surprisingly accurate. I do get better at distance with the Norc as I have a factory Norc scope on it. With the Norc I have to "persuade" it all the time when assembling/disassembling...not so with the Russian. With that in mind I put a Tapco on the Norc (that was an exercise in fun...).

I am in the same situation and have completed some extensive reading through the internet and this great site. I will purchase a Russian version soon, not sure if I will wait for Marstar, Johnone has not given a price estimate nor delivery update on his shipment.

I have a Norc that has a chromed lined barrel....really helps when cleaning after every use of surplus ammo. But I think the Russians look better. I think you would be happy with either one you choose.
