This past Friday found myself in cabelas in Calgary and noticed they had Chinese sks rifles in stock I checked out the one on display wasn’t terrible but par for the course mismatch and a bit rough around the edges but I decided sure I’ll take one. The employee went to the back got me a box verified the serial number took my pal and my money and I was on my way. Got home to clean the rifle and what I found definitely put a smile on my face, an all matching factory new unrefurbished very possibly unfired gem! Factory 946
A few days later still couldn’t believe my luck so I went back to see if lightning strikes the same place twice this time I asked to see a couple before I purchased. The first box had a rifle just as nice as the one from Friday. Curious I asked to see the next one, it’s an arsenal 666 rifle again matching numbers so it came home with me. Yesterday I couldn’t help it I went back for another. Wouldn’t you know my luck.. a jungle stock?
If there are any sks collectors or enthusiasts within driving distance it seems definitely worth checking out while they got them.

I thought the Chinese SKS were all supposed to be like that. (brand new condition)

I'm pretty sure they aren't actual war surplus like the Russian SKS rifles.

These are military surplus type 56 all 3 I purchased can be dated to the late 60s going by the serial number
I’ve seen some really nice commercial ones on the secondary market perhaps I was a bit late to the game to find those in stores. but ones recently offered by dealers in my experience most have them have been military rifles. pretty rough and mismatched usually and some you definitely can tell they were rode hard and put away wet with Beat up sanded up stocks and metal parts that had been refinished with some sort of matte black nightmare unlike the bluing of the rest of he gun definitely seen some sort of hard treatment. perhaps just the stock those particular dealers buy from.
Hence my excitement to find 3 Gooders in a row for once.

With the sale price free shipping and gift card collecting dust it was a no brainer. Hopefully I get lucky with a keeper
Thank you for the heads up

Was going to add these yesterday but got distracted
Here are some photos of them

Top:1969 factory 946 that came in excellent condition (like new)
Middle :1970 factory 666 she’s a bit rough looking but numbers match. it appears the number 6 has also been carved into the right hand side of the stock, see photo below
Bottom 1971 factory 016 in a jungle stock. Turns out they originally had a Bakelite handguard as well but this one unfortunately is sporting wood

Yeah I think they are pretty cool but there doesn't seem to be a market here for them. I've seen bakelite "french tickler" hand guards on the EE before for cheap, I'm sure you'll be able to find one.

Show me the jungle stock, please!

When I heard jungle stock my curiosity got the better of me. I went to the Winnipeg Cabelas Saturday afternoon and during a lull at the gun counter, they rummaged through some boxes in the back and found not one but 2 for me to look at.

I picked out a factory 26 in a fiberglass stock with a 9 million serial number. This should put it as a late 1965 with a short barrel lug (not pinned), spike bayonet, one piece gas tube and a milled trigger group.

All numbers match except the magazine. It even came with a barb wire sling attachment at the front:)

Dam isn't that something . I was at a gun store something like 30 plus years ago in Toronto and I saw one of those Chinese sks rifles with the plastic stock and turned my nose up at it . like yuck . not to sound negative but it just felt cheap . I have always liked an sks with a wood stock on it . and now I'm looking at this and thinking I guess I should have bought one. I'm sure all you sks rifles will shoot great . like all of them do .
