chinese SKS bayonet trouble

Got myself a chinese SKS a couple months ago. Only did so because I had an open slot on my purchase permit and it was cheap (for Switzerland at least).

Well, to make a long story short: the rifle was converted to meet german law-requirements.

-sight blade limited to 300m (duh!)
-magazine limited to 5 rds (removed before I received it, since it's not required in Switzerland)
-bayonet removed
-cleaning rod and kit removed (replaced them already)
-bayonet removed

Now I got ahold of a new spike bayonet.

Problem: the bugger doesn't fit.

what would be the correct bayonet for my SKS? blade? Where can I get one? They seem to be impossible to find on this side of the atlantic.

Well it's a Russian sks and those used blade bayonets( except for the early ones). I'm not sure we're you will find one but il trade you mine for a k31 bayonet lol. You could also just open up the groove in the stock so it fits.

the russians mark their receivers with "made in china by norinco"? ;)

K31 bayo? sure, why not, also care for a K31? They only cost an apple over here ;)

Best way is probably to modify the stock so it fits.

Early Chinese had blade bayonets. That stock is cut for a blade. However it may be a Chinese SKS in a Russian SKS stock, or it may be a Chinese SKS Egyptian contract, which had Russian laminate stocks on them. Need more photos.

Some of the first chinese sks's had blade bayonets when they first got the tooling from the russians, and i think some of the later commercial ones might have also had a blade bayonet, but either way, your stock is cut out for a blade, not a spike. You can either find a spare stock that has a spike cutout, find a blade bayonet to put on, or use a dremel/file and open up the slot on the bottom to fit the spike.

damn, just checked out pictures of blade bayonets. They would be considered prohibited because they're twosided, so it's not possible to just order one from Canada or wherever. Looks like I'm going to modify the stock.

Thanks for the info guys. Will post pictures of the complete rifle as soon as I have some.

I thought Canadian gun laws are retarded...then we have countries that are more concerned about a bayonet than they are with the rifle!?...Shhhh, don't let on that a 7.62x39 round is much more fatal than something you could butter bread with. Laugh2

OP, our apples are fresh off the trees this time of year, do you suppose if I wrap a few dozen up with extreme care {:rolleyes:there might be a Russian bayo in the tissue paper;)} you could reciprocate with one of your countries very well maintained K31's? The reputation of your citizen's skills in marksmanship and maintenance of these rifles have reached our shores.

BTW; the SKS bayo is only one sided, and that side is not edged/sharp. The blade edge is no more sharp than the flute edge of that Chinese spike, no lie, I can run the palm of my hand unprotected with pressure up and down the edge and remain un cut. Even the bladed ones were designed to poke, not cut.

If it's only one sided, then it's okay. Only blades with two edges are illegal, for whatever reason.
So I'll now look for that. The other option is to have the spike bayo shortened.

German gunlaws really are retarded. Swiss law's are not so bad.

@plinker: I don't want to get into trouble, so you have to come over and pick them up by yourself. ;) But you can have one of my 3 rifles for free, got plenty of apples here.

Woo! We'll have strudel {apple of course}...or is that a German thing!? Yodelling and Range practice in the Alps then {definitely Swiss:)} I hate to be the one to break the news, I'm confident the K31 will out group the SKS. :)

You could certainly carve up your stock to accommodate the bayo. You could also safely import the proper stock...no legal issues with that. Your stock is certainly inletted for blade style bayo. Given the tapco fad rages on here, stocks can be had for cheap.

Leaving it extended permanently wasn't included...

@Plinker: Apfelstrudel is more of a german thing, but it's also very common over here. Speaking of it makes me hungry, I should make some.

While a K31 will outshoot an SKS, we still use them side by side during classes as they complement each other perfectly. The SKS is perfect for young shooters and girls.

@Camster: getting a new stock or bayonet is probably the best way. Leaving the bayo open is no option.

@Roughshod: thanks.

You have an interesting rifle. As others said, it would be nice to see a few more pics. Not too sure if its original configuration or has parts replacement. Your stock is designed for a blade bayonet as others had mentioned. In accordance with your laws, a Russian bayonet is NOT two sided, it is manufactured flat on one side (upper side when folded). From six feet away it may appear to be double edged, but it is not.

How ironic that we have piles of Russian bayonets , yet cost a small fortune for a decent K31 Bayonet? You know there is no import restrictions to mail a box to Canada , such as bayonets, mag pouches, cleaning kits, ect ? What is your preferred currency? ;)
