How do the Chinese SKS conditions typically compare to the Russians out there? Are you more likely to get a 'poor/fair' quality rifle with Chinese purchase when compared to a Russian?

What are your odds of finding a nearly pristine, unissued Chinese vs Russian these days?

Is it true that the Russians have milled receivers and Chinese ones have more economical manufacturing techniques?

Right now... Don't even think about buying a Chinese one unseen. I would say some are even close to un-shootable. Some sponseres even warn they are "as is, Final sale".

The only way these days to find a Chinese unissued would be the EE or other gun sales site, they were plentiful 5+ years ago and sold for less than Russian refurbs most of the time, lots of folks have a few in their safes still unfired and they come up on the EE, once in a while, for +- $300. I am hoping china will release more unissued sks, the refurbs that have been circulating the last while are usually not the best, same as the recent left over Russian refurbs! So, $ 300 ain't bad!

The one Chinese sks I had was nothing special fit and finish wise, but shot like a laser and never had any issues.

In the few I've had here (maybe a dozen), I saw quite a difference between the military and commercial versions. Military ones, I've shot a few, nothing to be ashamed of.

I recently bought a Cabelas Chinese SKS sight unseen . Mixture of parts but very serviceable. Bolt and carrier were NOS and un-serialized. Stock was older, sanded and mismatched but no cracks. Parts other than the magazine seemed newish and all-milled. Worth what was paid at 199 and I'd buy another if the price matched. Russian SKS's are pricer but a superior rifle IMO.

I bought one of the B grade Chinese SKS advertised on line and it was garbage. Then a few months ago went into Cabelas Calgary. Found 3 all matching Chinese SKSs in perfect shape. One was at regular price and a month or so later when they had a sale($199.99) picked up the other 2. Plus did customer survey and received $20.00 off. Sales personal were great and understanding. I would not buy sight unseen again and when I go to store I ask if I can take apart to see if matching serial numbers and general condition.

I've had/have several chinese sks rifles. They shoot every bit as good as Russian rifles, although they are not as pretty. I have a consumer norinco that I bought in the early 80's, its had tens of thousands or rounds though it and shoots the same groups as it did when new.

The early blade bayonet made on Russian tooling /26\ are the best IMO my son's thinks it's a bolt action accuracy wise.

That is DAMN clean!!

Glad I found this post, I was about to order a hand-picked GRADE A from someplace. Ordering online....the envy passed. I don't want to be stuck with a bad surprise. Its just to get another one, as I have a 1952 Tula refurb already.

Got the Chinese, Russian, Commercial and the Yugo. Seems to me the Yugo is the best quality, the laminate stock Russian is far ahead of the non laminate Russian, the SKS D is about par with the other Chinese SKS' and the Chinese SKS is about on the lower scale. This is all about looks though. All of them shoot fine and function about the same.

Old Chinese unissued rifles are very good in quality. Newer ones are parts guns

But I buy sks to shoot not to warship.

I've owned four Chinese SKS and three Russian SKS. Two of those Chinese SKS were commercial and two were military. The only SKS I had a problem with was my first Russian 1950 which had a nasty habit of stovepiping live rounds.

all my Chinese military contract sks’s i’ve own have been as good as any russian SKS. i use to own 5 chinese and 6 russian, so had a good chance to compare.
