most of us know that the chinese have modified the original SKS to the extreme.

i can think of a few off hand .

1. SKS-D /M , takes AK mag.
2. para , restricted, short barrel .
3. fires 5.56mm nato.
4. pin barrel.
5. stamp receiver.

but have you heard of black powder SKS?

Like the Enfield, there are more variants than you can imagine. Including arsenal, production years, calibers, and countries, it's over 80.

My intention is to have one of all of them. It's on my Bucket List. :)

I just got an interesting post card from my bro vacationing in Taiwan.

While visiting national monuments there he witnessed ceremonial soldiers doing a ceremonial changing of the guards which entails a bunch of fancy marching and gun flipping using SKS's. His description of their rifles: "The wooden stock was stained black and the metal parts? All motherf**king CHROMED!"

Great kid!

Those are called Honor Guard SKS's. They go for around $1400.00 US$.

There were also the milsurp variants that came in with the red/brown fibreglass stocks. They are slightly heavier than the wooden stocked models and I would say, generally more robust.

Had one of those once. Compared to a Russian SKS, they were a tank.

I have a Chinese SKS that has the ####tiest Chu wood you can possibly imagine. The wood density is maybe 50%. It's probably just over 6lbs without the mag and ammo. (it's a "D" with the bayo-less lug) Shooting it is awesome because it's so light, but appearance wise, well it's on my to do list for a re-finish.

any pic ?

taiwan is a non-commie country , i never thought they would ever use a SKS for their honour guard , i thought it would be the M14 .

their army uses the 5.56mm nato if im not mistaken .

Hopefully, in 2 months; but it'll likely be 3.2mp cel quality.

Good point, Taiwan isn't communist while China is but that hasn't stopped them from free-trade .
