Howdy All,

I have a Norinco Chinese SKS with the stock split just before the action and reciever. I purchased this firearm just over three months ago. I'd like to know if anyone else has had this problem.

I had the same problem with my SKS-D. I went on the EE forums and bought a new one from another member - there are plenty out there. The Chinese wood is notoriously bad, so I'm sure it's not an uncommon occurrence.

Buddy had one that split. In general, the chicom wood is indestructible. Good opportunity for you to make a nicer stock for yourself - they're pretty simple.

SKS Stocks

I have a buddy that got one in 2006 and it had some kind of stain/paint mixture on it. It fell over when he leaned it up against the shooting bench and the stock split from in front of the mag well to the wrist. He didn't even get a chance to shoot it. The mixture hid the flaws in the stock, and it had a dry feel to the wood. It felt like balsa wood. The receiver had pock marks below the wood that you wouldn't even notice until you took it apart. It was sand blasted and reblued. I bought a stock for him on Gunnutz, and it was fine after that. The Russian SKS's usually have laminated stocks at least that that's what I got when I purchased a bunch of them years ago. Hope the new batch coming in will have laminated stocks.

When you replace it be aware that the press fit barrel receiver and the threaded barrel receiver stocks have slight differences in the position of the stock bolt lug which will affect fit and are not truly interchangeable. There's also the matter of blade bayonet/spike bayonet if your carbine has one.

Maybe you can glue it. If you can separate the crack you might be able to ooze some watered down wood glue into it. Then clamp it.,If you can. If not tape it with lots of wraps of masking tape. If this is not a possibility, try the t6. I really like my Tapco T6.
