I don't quite understand why the hell people make a big deal over Chinese made surplus ammo. I've seen several times people in a gun store not buy a crate of 7.62x39 simply because its Chinese. They always ask the same question. Is it Russian? No its Chinese. Oh I don't want it then. Its all crap ammo. Doesn't mater if you buy Chinese, Russian, Ukrainian, Romanian, Polish, or Czech. Its all ####, inaccurate, dirty, corrosive plinking ammo. The only two questions I ask when buying surplus 7.62x39 is, how much and how many rounds? I couldn't give a rats @#$ where it came from. If you're concerned about the quality of your 7.62x39 ammo, then buy Hornady Steel Match 7.62x39 w/123gr SST.

Yup. I only shoot up to 100m at the best of times as my eyesight is so poor and I can't see the target past that. Can't get proper eye relief on a scope either. All I care about is Russian battlefield level of accuracy. Man sized target at 100m, fill it full of holes. Any ammo will do if I do my part.

The Chinese corrosive surplus is the best stuff I have used in the surplus market, I got a bunch of the 1500 rounds crates and love it.

It groups best in the bolt action 7.62's I used too. The worst stuff I used is the non corrosive bulk 7.62x39. Not sure why it varies so much but the groups open up.

I prefer chinese surplus over a lot of surplus ammo "accuracy" wise.

3-4" groups with a red dot on a VZ and shot it out to 300 meters 8" grouping

I used to buy the Romanian, because it was generally cheaper, still have a few hundred rounds from the last case, doubtful there is much difference in manufacturers.

308 vs 311 bullets

It seems to be just the normal " it's Chinese, so it has to be crap" thing, similar to Norc pistols. I bought a bunch of crates at a CTC sale in Freddy last month and they advertised it as Czech x39, green crate 1440 rounds for $225 a crate, had my doubts about the country but didn't matter. I took one apart and sure enough there was Chinese writing all over it! I have a couple crates from 1973 which are lacquered that I bought a year ago and these were from 1971 and were copper washed, all Chinese! Nice looking rounds actually. Some of the spam cans have a light white dusting of corrosion on them from the zink I guess! I irritated my eyes a bit!

I have a preference for copper washed but that's about it.
Be careful though, there are some shops selling Albanian surplus as Chinese. There was a thread on here not too long ago about it.

I have shot truck loads of Chinese stuff. It is decent and I have never had a misfire. I have found it to be about as accurate as anything else. Personal favourite surplus is still the Czech ammo.

It has been my experience that the Chinese surplus .45, 7.62x39, 7.62x51, 7.62x54, and 5.56 are all loaded to the upper limit of what the respective caliber is supposed to be. For example 7.62x51 Nato is supposed to be 147gr slug at between 2700 and 2800fps. The Chinese surplus has averaged 2780-2800 when we've checked. I've found point of impact is higher than Sellier and Bellot at ranges between 500 and 800 by roughly 100yrds on the M305 rear sight when shooting rocks in our pasture. With the 7.62x39 in my SKS and 858 it shoots 10'' high and 10'' left at 100yrds so I haven't shot much of it and prefer other manufactures in that caliber.

Several years ago CanAm was selling Chinese , advertised as non-corrosive and i bought many , many cases . Some guys did the nail test and some of it had corrosive primers . I shot a lot of it through two SKSs and one CZ858 plus a bit through another 858 . The one 858 that i put 120 rounds through was cleaned within days and the other 858 and two SKSs weren't cleaned until the following spring . No rust or corrosion . It shoots 3 to 4 inch groups at 100 and i'm fine with that . I think i'm down to my last 10 cases . These are 1,200 round cases , two spam cans of 600 rounds each . Norinco Silver Box nor Winchester soft points shot any better through any of my rifles than the surplus did . Sure , there were a few 2 to 3 inch groups but mostly 3 to 4 inch .
