I can see that there have been a few posts about the Chinese type 81 over the last couple of years. I don't see it on the RCMP prohib list under the AK variants.
http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/sor-98-462/fulltext.html The VZ58 is prohb but than an non-restricted came along as the VZ858 and a few others e.g. SIG's . I'm sure some importers who deal with Norinco directly could make some inquires! On one post a while ago some one said they contacted Marstar and was told they were prohb but I called the RCMP firearms tech last week and he said there is no listing for this in the FRT. I sent him a pdf of these........ By the way, sorry for posting it like this but I can't find a bulk upload for PDF.

If any body is friends with or on a first name basis with Wolverine, Marstar or any other of the big importers; light a fire under there feet and see what they can do. Please don't just stop because of a few dismissive scoffs from know-it-alls. I never in my wildest dreams thought that I could own a VZ858. If the lefties have shown us one thing, it's that nothing is necessarily written in stone where the firearms act is concerned.

If we knew how the rcmp conducted their testing we would know right now. I have a feeling it comes down to more than just looks.

Look up norinco 81s. Listed there as an ak variant prohib. There are 3 other frt listings for type 81 prohibs as full autos or converted autos.

I'm assuming that it was listed on the frt as an ak variant without an actual inspection of a type 81. This would not be a surprise as they used to classify things without seeing them.

I pm'd TI about 2 weeks ago and they confirmed their sample is still at the lab, and they haven't heard any word as of yet.

This is already being discussed here...

Expect 2+ years for a new entry. I figure it will be at least another year. Total guess though.

TI was hoping late 2013. It was submitted in late 2012.

Alberta Tactical had their own design of a firearm sit on the shelf for three years and it just landed on the lab floor and may take a year before a decision is made. It's just a big political pile of BS with the RCMP firearms lab playing games with no accountability. Want changes then tell your local politicians to make these goofs accountable for their actions.

Which one? The belt fed or the AR that isn't?

Like I said. 2+ years! minimal.

Huh. I thought the carbine build was dead. Glad to know its pushing ahead on ATRS's side of things. I know one of the 5 sides of the receiver got the belt fed gonged. Vid heard that will be rectified as well.

I haven't checked in on Alberta tactical a carbine thread lately so it could very well be dead. Last I looked it was off the labs shelf and being examined after three years of waiting.

Well.......... this is actually one I feel good about getting wrong. I must say that I'm now very excited with anticipation, providing the RCMP doesn't ruin it; I wonder what they would retail for?

Don't get too excited too quickly. Be hopeful, but do those sleep over it either. I'll be excited when the frt is published, AND the frt says "non restricted".

This might tide you over in the mean time though...
