Choate Tactical or B&C Varmint

I have a Choate stock on my Rem 700 6mm BR. I do like it but it is quite heavy. I even went in and machined away parts of the metal spacer and it is still a bit of a pig. Wouldn't want to carry it too far.

The Choate stocks certainly work from the standpoint of easy assembly and accurate shooting. They are well made, heavy, clumsy and blocky.
The new tactical stock looks to be a much better design than the Sniper or Varmint. If the Cdn. price is in line with the US prices mentionned in that link, it is going to be a best buy.

Me too.
Emailed Choate this morning, asking when this Cdn. distributer they had mentioned a few months ago will be ready for orders.

Re-reading my email from Fred Choate on this (Mar.3/10), he actually indicated a local (U.S.) company was getting set up to export his product. He said, "They will be a few weeks. They are in the process of getting the paperwork set up."

So, it's an exporter, not a Cdn. distributer and it was mentioned only 2 months ago. Seems like longer when you're waiting.
Anyway, will post whatever reply I receive.

This is the company that Choate lists on their site to contact regarding orders from outside of the U.S.

looks like they want $250 per order to ship something?

I just went through this with choate and they said they will email me with the info when the exporter is up and running. Within a couple months was the word. I have also looked into B and C and they had a guy doing exports but I called him and the last few he sent were stopped at customs and he is currently fighting with them over it. He will not ship till they clear this up.

Think Choate has someone else is the wings. Reply rec'd from Fred Choate this afternoon:

"The State Dept told the company they will have their licensing in the next two weeks. They will then begin getting their website, e-mail, and retail shopping cart on the web set up and finished. It won't be long."

Hopefully this will be what one would want: the purchaser pays no export fees, doesn't have to process the paperwork, etc.

Yay!

I have a choate tactical for the center feed blind mag. I love it. I think I want to go with a detach mag on the same stock though. Probably sell the blind mag stock and wait it out for better availability.

Any update?

Nope. My last email exchange with Choate was May 18. They indicated product would be available "soon".
Might want to subscribe to this thread. Supposedly, I'm on their list & will be notified when the exporter is ready to ship north.
I'll post any info I receive.
