Is anyone useing this stock on a Remington 700 ? I am thinking about getting one for my sps-v .308 LH I know there is better options out there but availability and cost has held me back if anyone has this stock I would like to hear there opinion and first impression of it?

I just got my a few days ago. Very hefty, solid construction. The palm swell is pretty big, but I don't find it a problem. The V-bedding block is a definite upgrade over the Hogue, I can already see much more contact with the action and the barrel is fully-free-floated from recoil lug to the end. I have heard of people needing to get longer action screws to fit it, but I didn't have a problem. Inletting was good and the action just dropped straight in.
I will be bedding it this weekend and shooting later next week, interested to see what improvement I get.

I got mine from Mystik Precision, good service, will recommend.

Yup I also just ordered a Choate Custom Tactical for rem 700 LH and will be at my door around nov 20'th.
ordered it since it was cheap and was using it on my bush gun so i think it will work either way. reviews were very good so i took my chances lol

Gents

I know this is a bit of an older post, however, how is bottom metal installation handled for a Rem 700 on these stocks??

I see that the have a solid well, but are solid on the bottom.

Just so we are clear this is the stock I am talking about

The FAQ from their website is as follows

Q. Do I use my floor plate from my BDL Rem. 700 Rifle on your Sniper or Varmint stock?

A. No our stock does not use the floor plate that comes with your BDL rife. The bottom of our stock is not cut to take the tirgger guard from the original stock.

I recently got one off the EE and I am very happy with it. I have bedded it as well but haven't really had the chance to feed my 700 any quality ammo to see how we'll it can shoot (been hand loading 55gr VMAX and I'm not happy with the results but this was a problem before the new stock as well). As noted above, the Choate is hefty but it feels like you could never break it, which is exactly what I was going for! Fit and finish is great, and all all the gun parts were a snug drop in fit. The ergonomics of the stock are excellent as well.

I got my Choate "custom" Tactical for the remington Long action from Jerry at mystic precision two weeks ago.
I really like it!
I tried the bottom metal of a few Rem long actions I have, and they fit snug. No problems there.

The rifle I have slated for this stock is/was a Remington 700, stainless Sps, with a detachable magazine.

When I got this stock, I had to do some minor modifications to facilitate the bottom metal.
I had to machine about .020" off each side of the magazine well with a nice fine file. Easy stuff.
Once the bottom metal fit in nicely, and the bolts fit into place, I had to cut the knotches for the detachable magazine release buttons.

For that, i installed the bottom metal, and worked the stock material down with careful draw filing. It worked great! That stock material is seriously tough stuff!

Hope you like the pictures guys!

On a side note:

This "custom" Choate Tactical stock has the 3way adjustable butt plate. I installed a Pacymer butt pad to the stock, to help the butt stick into position in my shoulder better. So far I like it!

Jerry is arranging to build/fit two barrels for this action.
Making a switch barrel out of it. Of course the action will be blue printed and sleeved.

One barrel will be in 30-06, 1:10" twist 30"
The other will be 280 Remington, 1:8" twist, 30".

I may get removable brakes installed later.

My "LONG RANGE" plan (pun intended), is to have one of each of the factory produced cartridges on one frame.
Ie: 2506 Remington (fast twist to stabilise bullets over 120gr.)
270 Winchester again fast twist barrel.
280 Remington as noted (Shilen HV taper)
30-06 as noted (Shilen HV taper)
35 Whelan, standard twist.

Hopefully this all pans out! I plan to do this over two/three years. So I can afford it! Lol!
