Choate Ultimate sniper stock, any reviews

Heavy. Blocky. Busy. Works. Rifles usually shoot well bolted together, sometimes a skin coating of bedding compound results in an improvement.

You'll either love it or hate it's looks BUT it works.I prefer the Varmint version to the sniper version.
I've used it as a basis for an experiment and found it great off of pod.
The serrated flats on the forearm and butstock do not lend itself to accurate tracking so be prepared to modify if you want it to track bags.
I actually have one for sale under parts in EE that's been customized to use bedding block and free float action and barrel.
This would NOT be good as a walking varminter due to weight but excellent to watch hits for a "drive to" varminter.

These stocks always struck me as being as gimmicky as the guy who created
them. John Plaster has always appeared as ingenuine with what little due respect I can afford him.
Depending on the action you're using there are several really good stocks, but
along with the better choices goes a price tag.
Remington AICS by Accuracy Int'l or HS Precision Tactical or MacMillan Bros A series
Except for the AICS most actions can be made to fit into the other stocks
or the stock will come factory inletted for you action by request.

I agree with Ont0001. The varmit version is a better stock due to the full length metal liner. The sniper verson only has a liner around the action. The sniper version tends to flex forward of the action and through the butt stock area. You will notice this after you get out past 500m or so.

They are an aquired taste! Not the greatest stock out there and a little bit on the expensive side, but not a hunk of crap either. This is one gun related itme that you have to litterally hold yourself to see if you like.

I've got one on my Savage 10FPLE. I love it. I use it while hunting coyotes and yes, I walk. It is a little on the bulky side. Easily adjusted to get a good fit. Mine has a full length aluminum block. If you'd like to give it a go, drop me a PM.

These stocks were just under US$100 wholesale not all that long ago. At that price they were a "best buy". I preferred the varmint model, just less gimmicky than the sniper version. Personally I wouldn't own something that had "Ultimate Sniper" emblazoned in large letters; quick application of a sander could remedy that. If Choate had cut their dies for a bit more ergonomic shape in the grip area, the stock would be much better - something along the lines of a AI contour. There are some interesting features, with provision for adjustments, etc. Concept isn't bad, design could be better.

I had one and sold one? Was ok not junk but never fit my hands well, too bulky could not get beihind the gun well with it and was rough on the trigger hand.
i would say a 6 out of 10
Its far from a Macmillan? but 1/4 the price and was a improvement over the factory savage stock!
