Choke advice

I just received my Winchester Defender 1300 in the mail (SFRC Rocks!) and to my great surprise I noticed that it has a screw in choke. I had assumed that the barrel had a fixed cylinder bore choke. It's a full choke in the gun currently. What I would like to know is what can I do with it? Is it ok to shoot slugs through it? I have a notion that I may not want to shoot any tungsten or heavy shot, but lead shot through it only. What say you all?

Replace the full choke with a Modified or a Rifle choke. Then you are good for slugs.....

Modified would be better for shooting at clays as well, would it not?

Hmmm... I've got several shotguns... Here's how they are choked...

Benelli Nova pump, IC
Baikal MP153 semi, IC
Dominion Arms Grizzly pump, Cylinder (no choke tubes)
Savage Arms Milano over/under, Skeet & IC

I've always hunted upland birds with dogs, shots are close & quick, hence the IC choke choice.

Switching to waterfowl, the IC choke, with steel, shoots like a modified choke.

And, it's not like I don't have tighter choke tubes, I just don't see the need for them unless I was turkey hunting & then the full or XF goes in.

For sporting clays you change chokes depending on the thrower set up.
On trap you shoot a full choke.
On skeet you shoot skeet, cylinder, or IC.

For screwing around in the back field any thing is fine.

slugs = most open choke. other then that keep full choke on.. thats what i use

A lot of slugs shoot best through IC or MOD chokes than CYL or Skeet.
