does anyone here/has anyone here .. done a fair ammount of waterfoul shooting with cylinder bore ? with short barrell 18.5" to 20"

i count myself as a good shot with a shotgun, have never had a crack at ducks with cylinder bore but ive been eyeballing a mossberg 930 SPX in my local store, wondering if it would do the job on ducks aswell as what im actually going to get it for

we pretty much use only steel here, so less pattern spread than lead

oh yeah i use full chokes on my fabarm, what im curious about is if cylinder bore.. as in no choke.. is going to be effective at all, or just a complete waste of time

never used it on ducks, but i have used it on clays, and on rodents out to 20 yards. seems ok at that distance.

Should shoot steel (for waterfowl) like a Improved cylinder. Still not tight enough for passing ducks farther than 25 yards. Could work on a field shoot over decoys if they are coming in close too.

Over decoys it should be fine, I have shot geese with a cylinder bore, use large shot for a tighter pattern and keep your shots under 30 yards and you'll be fine. You'd be surprised how much difference there is when using a cylinder bore, I think people have been using too much choke for a very long time.

I have not used an 18-20 inch but I have used a model 12 cut to 26 inches which would make the bore cylinder. It worked great for sneak and jump shooting mallards. I think that it would be OK for decoyed birds. I think that I often use more choke than I need because I want to be prepared for longer shots.
