Hi

Does anyone know how to determine what is the choke size on a Franchi 48 AL 20 gauge ... there are all kinds of markings on the barrel and I don't know want they mean. I just got the shotgun and I plan to use it for duck hunting ... I just want to make sure I can use steel without damaging the barrel.

Thanks.

No news from anybody ??? The only good gunsmith I know is about 2 hours from my place ... I would like to avoid the trip if I can ...

We can't simply guess what the barrel is choked, you haven't really given us any information. The gun could be choked Modified, improved cylinder, cylinder , full or just about anything else. A picture of the barrel markings would help.Even barrel length would narrow it down if the barrel is factory original.

The left had side of the barrel before it meets the receiver is where choke is sometimes stamped maybe check there.

The barrel is 28" and the markings that I think are the choke identifier show " ### " ... I found a chart on the web that says * full / ** Imp Mod / *** Mod ...for Italian guns ... I don't trust the chart 100% because I'm not sure that all companies use the same marking convention but if someone could confirm that all Italian manufacturer use the same standard... it would greatly increase my level of confidence.
