Looking at a 28" barrel Norinco PW-87 that is cyl bore and wondering if it's possible to have a screw in choke installed or worse case scenario a poly choke added. Does anyone have any experience getting this done? What were the results like?

It's not a difficult job, but it depends on the type of steel used for the barrel and the thickness of the barrel at the muzzle. I'm not familiar with the PW-87 barrel thickness, but I'd expect it to be more than adequate.

Depending on the value of the prospect gun and the price for threading the barrel charged by your gunsmith, it sometimes makes more sense to sell the gun and buy a newer piece already provisioned for removable chokes. It won't likely be cheaper to sell and buy a newer gun, but the newer gun will be worth more for resale than the Norinco with the added cost.
 
unfortunately the 1887 clones are few and far between with full length barrels and I have a disdain for Chiappa. So Norinco is the only one left. None of them come with full choke unfortunately the only choke I have seen was modified. The newer 1897 shotguns are coming with tubes in them but not sure of any 1887 models coming like this. I want it for woods walks... just general use, crows, skunks, porcupines... maybe the occasional rabbit. It wont be fired more then a couple hundred rounds a year as I have an over and under that is my usual candidate.

There's a place called "Country Classics" in Alberta that imports Cimarron's 1887 clone. They're available with a 28" barrel and come with a set of 5 screw-in chokes.
 
Where are you located? Would help to know where you are to recommend a gunsmith that could thread the barrel, be warned that Norinco barrels are all over the place with o.d. and wall thickness. You might have to thread it for thin wall chokes if it doesn’t measure up to spec for a standard wall choke tube. I just had a DA Grizzly barrel threaded, it was too thin for Rem and Winchokes but was within spec for tru-chokes. I had Rusty Wood Trading in Mission B.C. do the work, he did an excellent job and turnaround was super quick.
 
I'd sell it and buy another with factory tubes. You'd save money and have something worth more in the end.

Think BPS or 870.
