Looking into buying my first shotgun....the 3 im looking into are the Mossy 500 3 or 2 barrel combo, a Rem 870 express or if theyre in canada the new Winchester SuperX pump. Im having around the 400$ before taxes bracket if that helps any. Just need something that I'll be able to duck hunt with or shoot slugs for deer and preferebly with interchangeable chokes. Thanks for any input guys.

FOr that price you can look at a remy 870 express combo that inlcudes a rifled deer barrel. I bought mine 4 years ago for $350.

I just bought a Baikal MP-153 semi-automatic from Kodiak outpost, that could suit your needs, i think it is a great all-round shotgun. Paid 495.00 taxes included.

Both the Mosberg and the Wingmaster are good choices. If price is a factor a pump is the best value, and you can always purchase a slug barrel with sights for either one. Used parts are available too. Enjoy whatever you buy, and good hunting to you...

I forgot to add, with modern ammo capable of very tight patterns, the choke thing is grossly overrated in my opinion. The small advantages gained from selecting chokes should not influence you too much. With a double barreled gun full and modified cover it all. Variations on a theme are just high priced gadgets you don't really need if your budget is restricted.

Remmy 870 Tactical express with ghost sights.

Get a goose, turkey and slug choke and you can do it all with different sights on the integral rail system.

I have an 870 and have had problems with it, so last week I bought the Mossberg 500 combo with the 28" barrel and the 18" barrel (with extra pistol grip). At Wholesale Sports the bill came to approximately $390.00. With your $400 cap, just enough left for a box of shells. I tried it out at the range, and have nothing but good things to say, and smiles on my face. Good luck hunting, but in my opinion, go for the Mossy!!

"...modern ammo..." The ammo has nothing to do with patterns.
$400 might be a bit light for a multi barreled package. Where are you?

I have a Norinco HP-9 with 14" barrel and a folding stock. Great gun for camping, self defense. I also bought 28" barrel from remington with modified choke. Change the barell and the stock and here you go with a pump action gun for bird hunting.

Where did you get that idea? "The ammo has nothing to do with patterns" The same gun with the same choke will pattern loads differently. Do you think that all manufacture's use the same components in their loads? Pattern your gun with different loads to find out what works best in your gun.
