When it comes to picking up a new choke for a shotgun, i.e..extended chokes/turkey etc. Are chokes universal within the same brand of firearm? or do I need to get a specific choke for a specific barrel?

You will need to buy chokes threaded for your barrel. Most, if not all, companies making chokes will make a choke threaded for your gun. I prefer extended chokes because they protect the barrel and are easier to keep tight. Don't bother with ported chokes - they are harder to clean.

What kind of gun are you talking about?

Win SX3 Black shadow. The reason why I asked these questions is that I thought I seen on one the chokes that came with it something saying not to shoot steel through it. But after just running to the gun cabinet and looking at the chokes it appears my mind made those things up and they say nothing about not shooting steel loads. but that do say "Invector Plus" and after looking on Cabelas website i see other makers(Browning) that sell chokes marked "Invector Plus" got any insight on what "Invector Plus" is?

But I would like to pick up some extended chokes for some longer range goose/duck hunting, coyote hunting and if it ever happens...turkey hunting.

Manufacturers keep changing their choke designs, hence the different designations. The Invector Plus is common to Browning and Winchester, due to corporate affiliations.

after doing some looking...it appears that the Brownings and Winchester sx-2, sx-3 both use the Invector Plus and can be interchanged with each other...

Some chokes are to tight for steel shot. These will usually say lead only. Some chokes are rated for lead and steel but the resulting patterns differ depending on load used

Carlson's extended sporting clays tubes for Invector Plus are rated for lead and steel... I recommend Al's Corner Store, he is a Carlson dealer and has great prices and service.
