My Mum will be taking her PAL course Friday and wants to shoot rimfire. She does not like the heaviness or bulkiness of my 10/22 and would prefer something
lighter, slimmer and non survival type rifle. Semi-automatic because it is easier to use.
I was thinking Marlin or Savage. Are there any rifles with a steel receiver as opposed to aluminium?
Scopes; high magnification would be better.
Thoughts and ideas please.

Just ordered her a Marlin 795ss from Lanz Shooting Supplies. Oh, she will be 73 in a couple of months and she passed her test and should be receiving her PAL in the post in about a month or so.
No high capacity mags for the 795? I couldn't find any listed anywhere. Still, it is a good rifle.

Way to go for your Mum! Shooting sports can be such a level playing field, it doesn't matter how old or young you are you have the opportunity to compete against anyone.

I might have suggested a tubular fed magazine over a box mag. Might be easier to load for aged hands.

Thanks Skeetgunner, but she will be going to Silverdale as I do. Great place and great people. I have been to the Burlington club. A friend of mine shoots pistol there on Mondays. A wealth of knowledge there for certain.

Update: My Mum got 92% on her R-PAL exam.

Now she needs a pistol.

The grips on a Ruger Mark III are quite slim, compared to older mrk I/II's. Or a nice S&W K17/617 target revolver would fit the bill.

There's a georgeous Hammerli target pistol in the EE...I'd snarf it but i'm broke. :(

Pistol night is Monday night at BRRC.

Teapot does she live upper or lower mountain in the hammer, just so i know when i'm out and about driving not to tick her off because she will probably be a better shot then me:rolleyes:, and how long does it take to get to silverdale i've been meaning to go check it out just havent had time. Any other info you can give me about the place drop me a line in a private message it would be greatly appreicated.
