I've been offered to buy this gun by a friend. The stock was broken at the wrist, and screwed and glued together poorly. I'm thinking about undertaking a restoration of this rifle. I'm unsure about the caliber of the rifle barrel. I think it might be 6.5 X52R. Can anyone translate this for me? Does the water table tell the length of the chambering of the 16 gauge barrel?

The marking says 70 mm which is modern length or 2-3/4" equivalent. Nice BBF. well worth restoring! Proof marks should indicate rifle barrel chamber on the underside of the barrel as it is listed for the shot barrel, not on the "water table". look on the opposite side.

The deep relief engraving on that rifle makes it worth saving. It looks like it would have been a top end rifle from that maker. I don't know the maker's name or if the gun was based off a common action like a Merkel but I am sure someone does. Post questions about it over on the Nitro Express Forums. There is a wealth of knowledge over there for guns like this.
