I just bought a brand new LMT lower/upper and when i looked at the barrel crown (inside the flash suppressor) i see something that looks like rust to me. It mainly covers a part of the rifling. I don't think it is copper fouling.

What do you guys think?

I is located a 2 o'clock. The pics could be better but it is the better i could do.

BTW the upper is brand new and never been fire (only test fired at LMT)

Pic is too small to see anything.

Take a high-resolition macro pic, then crop just the area you want to show off - that should be big enough to see then.

Brought it back to the shop where i got it. It was actually rust and the 'smith think that a bit of chrome might be missing. One thing for sure, i'm gonna get a new one since this one was bought brand new and never been fired. This is the least when you pay $$$$ for something in the high end.

It was not locktite or any kind of grease. It is something like surface corrosion on the rifling, something not normal for a new barrel who is supposed to be chrome lined.

Exactly, that is f*** weird. That is not the thing you would expect from a maker like LMT, but hey, you can buy a BMW and have problems with it the first day. It doesn't mean that the whole campany is a problem, maybe only this particular car (that was probably made on a monday morning or friday afternoon ...!!!).

Anyway I don't think anybody would trust a new barrel that had rust on the rifling at the crown. You just asked for another one. Period.

I'm still hanging on LMT (i ordered a 14.5" upper in exchange) and keep thinking that I had good advices from Questar and the Montreal shooting club.
