Welcome to bling city, population: Tokarev.

This pistol came out of a storage depot in the Motherland, packed in Cosmoline for decades with the regular TT-33s.

It's on a 1951 Izhevsk frame, and very nicely done. No signs of wear, no re-furbishment marks; it looks like it was finished on a new pistol.

Speculation is that it is for parade use; many might be tempted to call it an ‘honour guard’ pistol, but the Kremlin Regiment is usually seen with well kept blued SKS-45s, and I cannot discern side-arms in any pictures. They are champion goose-steppers, though. Chromed SKSs are known in some Soviet parade situations.

I suppose it could have been a personal presentation as well, though one wonders how that would end up back at the arsenal (maybe the member fell out of favour with the Party and thus his retirement gift went back to the State as he went to the gulag?).

Okay, speculation is silly.

Frame and slide are fully chromed, with the minor parts darkly blued. The prominently-marked matched pair of magazines are all chrome, down to the followers!

The finish is hard and stable, it won't chip off. It is fully functional (I shot it only once, and it works just great). Cleans easier than normal, too!

I see weimajack listed a few chromed and partly-chromed TTs in the EE recently. Some of those were done on re-furbished frames (dated as early as 1941), and one shows quite visible wear prior to plating, whereas this one was chromed on a new example (dated 1951). It was mid-way through 1950 that they got the equipment set up in Tula for chrome-plating the bores on SKS carbines. I would wager most of these were done around that time, not necessarily for parade or special presentations, just as experiments to see what finish could be achieved, possibly even as off-shift gags by workers screwing around with the plating tanks. I don't know if he's got a line on more of these stored away at the source.

When I get them all organized, I'll post my collection of over a dozen variants of Tokarevs in six nationalities (and counting). Soon.

Where did you purchase that? Sick! I have been looking for a Tokarev for a while but they seem to be sold out everywhere. And the chrome finish to boot! I want one. Let me know if these are available on line, thanks
