FWIW since I could not find a lot of info on true velocity and performance of Sellier & Bellot 240 gr JSP 44 Mag ammo, I decided to chrony it 10 feet away from my Ruger 44 Carbine and test accuracy at 50 yards.

Lowest velocity: 1488 fps, highest: 1550 fps, average closer to 1500 fps.
This is 300+ fps slower than my 240gr handloads using 23.9 grs H110 but, this ammo is surprisingly accurate in my semi carbine.

No failures to chamber or eject in 75 rounds fired, and a 3 shot group at 50 yards were cloverleaf. No other ammo or handload I have tried is as accurate as this inexpensive factory ammo at $33.99 a box.

Less boom indeed but a nice smooth shooting round. Seems to burn clean as well. Only downfall is if you want to reload the brass, the primer pockets need to be reamed before re-priming. See YouTube for details.

I plan on doing some water jug penetration tests with this stuff and will post some pics in the near future.

Cheers,

Your numbers confirm what I've always felt, that S&B 44 mag is the weakest factory ammo I've shot in my revolvers, but reliable and accurate. The brass is great for reloading, with the exception of the very tight primer pockets, I actually have to swage the primer pockets of this brass even though the primers aren't crimped.

And yet most say their 9mm and .45 is hotter than the average. Either way, I love the stuff in every caliber I've tried so far. Always accurate and the cost is great.

The S&B ammo is very weak, the only non cycling ammo in my Desert Eagle 44 mag... No more for me... JP.
