I have recently worked on two sporterized guns with "Churchill Gunmakers" stamped on the barrel. One is a Mauser action in 30-06 and the other is an Enfield #4 action in 303 br. Both have very nice stocks and both look as if the barrels have been changed. (none military barrels)

I have been searching the net for historical info on Churchill Gunmakers but only found one reference to a book called "The House of Churchill by Don Masters". I would like to know a little about the company but can't justify $80.00 on a book that may or may not have the info.

Anyone here know of an internet source for such info?

I have found that by going to Cornell Publishing and "looking around" in their reprint gun related material. Most times more reasonable $ wise. Just a suggestion mind you. I think I'll go there and look around right now. --- John303.

I have a Churchill in 7mm Mauser. I believe it was made in the 60-70s. My understanding was that they were a British maker and used Spanish Santa Barbara Mauser 98 actions.

From the net: "Churchill was, in about 1900,a highly respected maker of best quality shotguns and other grades/types of sporting firearms. As the British firearms industry contracted, after WWI and then WWII, it was eventually joined with other small firms in an attempt to survive. Geoffrey Boothroyd, the British fireams expert, wrote a number of books documenting the twists and turns, ups and downs of the British firearms trade. Churchill was joined into Churchill, Atkin, Grant and Lang which ceased trading about 1980 according to Boothroyd."

Mine has the best fitting stock I have ever experienced in my life, you throw it up and the sights are "right there" and it settles in the shoulder perfectly.

Churchill made real nice enfield no4 conversions. I have been buying them over the years and find the workmanship excellent. They have increased in price a lot in the past few years as people have realized what a good rifle they are. Global Arms also made nice no4's.
