My stepdad has got a .303 churchill rifle, its been "sporterized" but the receiver is very similar to a Lee Enfield, and he says that it would have had a full length wood stock in a similar fashion before it was swapped. It has peep sights adjustable for elevation, and the barrel says it was made in London,England. I've googled and searched all over but i can hardly even find anything about a rifle named a Churchill, which is also marked on the receiver and barrel.. trying to help him get some history on the rifle.. any ideas?

It was common for firms like Parker Hale and Churchill to make sporters from milsurp Lee Enfield #1 and #4 rifles. If yours was fitted with the flip up ladder style aperture rear sight and a larger "ghost ring" battle sight when laid down it was a #4. A Churchill #4 was the first centerfire rifle I ever owned. It was fitted with a very nice monte-carlo stock with a ventalated recoil pad and a black forend tip and pistol grip cap with white line spacers, and was fitted with a flush mount 5 shot magazine. The pic below is from a badly damaged slide, and is the only surviving pic I have of this rifle.

It has been said that it was a different firm that converted surplus Lee-Enfields to sporting rifles under the name Churchill. If you are sure that is not the case, I'd be glad to know why.
