CIL 55 years ago...

When I was 8 yrs old (1962), my old man bought a model 180 Target for us to shoot at the local indoor firing range above the lobby in the local skating rink. It had a steel bullet trap with a bit of sand in the bottom of it at the end of the hallway, the only modification to the place to make it usable. I still have that rifle.
I also had a collection of the Mod 310's at one time but have sold them all...tack drivers every one of them.

Savage and Anschutz made guns for CIL among others, I think. They were a distributor on the firearm end not a manufacturer AFAIK.
Yup, a lot of those are Savage designs. The 830 is a Savage 340, and the 950-C is a Savage 110. I had an early Savage 325 that I wish was a CIL 830, I'd probably still have it. They were neat guns.

The good old Savage 340. My friend had one and he made a stock for it in grade 8 woodworking. The idea was good - he laminated a bunch of slabs by gluing them with carpenter's glue and then shaped and inletted it. The end result was....well, let's just say that it could have been used to put a deer out of it's misery if my friend ran out of ammo!

It seems it wasn't that long ago that the woodworking teacher in junior high didn't even bat an eyelash at a project involving a firearm. Hate to use the cliche, but those were the good old days. Man I feel old.

I still got an old box of those plus a bunch of other ammo and 12 guage shotgun shells
it's too bad no one in Canada makes ammo anymore.
I know IVI makes ammo but we can't buy it
