Hey guys,
I did a search to see if anyone else has gone through this but couldn't find anything to help me.
I am using my dad's old CIL 607 28" (Savage model 67) for migratory/upland hunting this year and a friend raised the point that since it has a built in choke and was probably manufactured before steel shot, I could risk damaging the barrel or worse.
In my searching, I found that someone mentioned some barrels are stamped "full" to indicate full choke but this one does not have any obvious stampings.
Most of the stampings on the barrel near the receiver seem to be compliance standards stampings save for a stamp that resembles two asterisks (**). According to wikipedia, this kind of marking can indicate an improved modified choke on spanish shotguns - but I'm thinking this gun obviously is not a spanish shotgun so it might not apply.
My dad says that when he purchased the gun way back when, the dealer said it had a modified choke in it so that's kind of what I'm going off of and assuming it's ok for steel.
Should I be taking this shotgun to a gunsmith to have it checked out, is there anything I can do to figure out the choke, or should I just not care and shoot it till it (possibly) blows up?
Thanks in advance!
