Finally had a chance to try mine out today after getting in some smallbore prone with sling practice.

Very nice indeed!
Bought a PH5c a while ago for it, and used up some 150gr Rem SP .308 get to get it sighted in at 25 and 50 yds, indoors.
Managed a three shot one holer at 50yds with a post front sight without trying very hard at all.
I think the potential is there.:D

First time I made the CDN rifle team was with a 950T action with a S&L barrel, Central sight and Robertson stock. Still have it. Although I don't believe they were made CNC I think they were better made than the current Savage.

Did you use the Central model made for thr No4 LE with the top mounted adapter plate, or a differnt model and mounting?

Here is what my setup looks like.

A friend loaned one to me chambered in 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser that was set up for "F" class...(tasco 20x SS) shot a lot better than I could.. and a real pleasant rifle to shoot...

It's my main competition rifle these days, set up with a Central sight and a McLennan .3070 Palma barrel.

This same rifle was used by my friend Mirko Teglasi to rank 13th in the world at Bisley (though it wore a Krieger pipe then).

I love it.

The 950T I have left from Dad's stuff has a central on it, but I also have the original adapter plate
(and the design drawing of it that he made):dancingbanana:
The acttion now has a Mcphee barrel on it iin 300WSM, because had screwed on an old Omark barrel. ( he did some weird things in his old age, but the barreel is still a shooter!)

I ended up with a Central but it came with the 5C which at the time was not a well made sight for someone serious. The plate also mounted it a fair bit off centre as I remember. Triggers are good, better than the Accutrigger as you could adjust creep as well.

When they were first delivered they did not shoot well with the Savage barrel and military ammunition (I wish we still had DA available) so they replaced them with what I was told were Anschutz made barrels. I guess they shot better but still not there. Fine with handloads. You have to remember that was the day of military ammo for competition and it was standard to select the barrel based on how it would handle the ammunition.

Yup, we were all over this one last year sometime.
it has to do with the issue7.62 ball ammo that was available of matches, and the chambers, etc.
it was a very interesting discussion from a historic perspective, as it brought out input from some of the shooters that were around at the time.
They used Anschutz, and some Shultz and Larsens as well.

The best barrels of the time were S&L but this was again because they handled the ammo the best. The military ammo was often undersized (look at the size of a current Krieger Palma barrel). The best shots had a quiver of rifles to try and select the best gun for the ammo du jour. Literally one could win the Queens prize one year and not make the final the next with the same gun just due to the ammo.
