I have been trying to determine the value of a CIL Model 171 22LR. The rifle says 'made in brazil' and is in very good shape. I believe it comes with a 6 shot clip. Not much info turned up in any of my searches. Anyone know what a fair value might be?

TIA

cil

Last one I saw at a local show was about $135, but the wood would probably rate about good condition, bluing about very good. I would say $150 for a very good specimen, but nowhere near the $ an Anshutz CIL model will bring.

The 171 was made by CBC for C.I.L. IIRC , and as was stated, $150 range would be tops IMHO. They are a reasonably good rifle, but nowhere near the accuracy of some of the .22's out there.....

I picked one up for 80 bucks with no mag. Found a Rem mag that fit at a gunshow. Got to be one of the worst triggers I've ever come across. I did bench it, and managed to do 1/2" @ 25 yds with a LOT of concentration on the trigger. Mine sits in the vault un-used now- until I can find a way to get the trigger useable... Everything else on the gun is done very well- one of the best muzzle crowns I've seen on a production .22...

hmm, I agree that it's not the best trigger I've ever felt but I don't think it's as bad as you are making it out to be. My 10 year old son didn't seem to have a problem putting 10 consecutive shots in a 1/2 inch at 25M last time we were out (see pic - that I would have attached if I could figure out how?) and he didn't complain once about the trigger. Many a decapitated grouse would argue with you as well. Perhaps some triggers were better than others on this model?

PS. seriously, does anyone know how to enable pictures to be posted? - Nevermind I think I figured it out......

The trigger on mine is as bad as I make it out to be- I wouldn't over exaggerate this if I could avoid it ;) . The gun is covered in J.B. Wood's 3rd edition of Rimfire Rifles Assembly/Disassembly with the red covers. It's listed there as the Mag-Tech 1-22. I'm gonna pick up some CLP Break-free, and strip it down again. The long link sear system is a real p.i.a. to work on... if you don't need to get at the trigger group on yours, it's best left alone...

they used rosewood which Brazil has plenty of my old one had what has the be one of the nicest stocks I've come accross it was black brown with yellow white tiger stripe figures .

A friend had one he wasn't using , and I gave him a bowie knife in trade. The metal was 98% bluing, but the stock had LOTS of scratches and marks. I stripped the stock down and refinished it in an antique walnut and a diamond coat clear laquer and I have to say, I think the wood looks FANTASTIC. The rosewood has nice figure and took the stain really well.
The trigger on mine is really crisp and the pull is 26 ounces +/- 2 ounces.
It is very accurate and now that I can see how good the wood is, I wont be selling it anytime soon. Cant believe I got it for a 30 dollar knife. It came with a 10 and 5 round mag and a case. Maybe I got a fluke gun with a good trigger and great rifling. I dont often see any model 171's around.
