I have a CIL model 300 in .22 lr.
It came with the peep sights front and rear and the previous owner had a very nice target trigger job done on it.
It has a grooved reciever for scope mounting so hence my question.
I can't even begin to do this rifle justice with the iron sights, so
can anyone recommend me a decent quality scope for this rifle.
I have heard I should stick to a rimfire specific scope but could I just put a cheaper centerfire scope on it with those "conversion" scope rings?
All advice is appreciated.

"...reciever..." 'I' before 'E' except after 'C'. The nuns will be coming for you. RUN! snicker.
There are rings made for .22 grooves that'll hold a larger tubed scope. Not cheap, as I recall. Wouldn't put a cheap scope on it. A medium priced one would be better. Mind you, it does depend on what you'll be doing with the rifle. And you'll have to try every brand of ammo you can to find the ammo it likes.
Front ring sights take a bit of getting used to. You literally put the ring around the black of a .22 target. Not a big fan of 'em myself. You might, I say again, might be able to find other inserts, like a fine post insert. Don't think it'd be easy though.
